Starter Heath Fillmyer had an impressive outing on Sunday, allowing just 2 hits over 5 shutout innings to earn his 2nd win since joining the RockHounds last month. RHP Lou Trivino pitched 2 perfect innings in relief, while RHP Trey Cochran-Gill tossed a scoreless 8th, and RHP Jake Sanchez got the final three outs in the 9th to complete the 3-hit shutout on Sunday. Center fielder Brett Vertigan singled, doubled, stole a base, and drove in 3, while shortstop Franklin Barreto singled in a run for the RockHounds. And after San Antonio’s loss on Sunday night, Midland’s magic number for clinching the second-half division title is now down to just two.

RHP Daniel Mengden delivered another outstanding start for the Sounds, allowing 1 run on just 3 hits while walking none and striking out 6 over 5 innings of work to notch his 8th win for Nashville, while LHP Cody Stull gave up 1 run in 2 innings of relief in his Triple-A debut on Sunday. Catcher Matt McBride had another big day at the plate, collecting 3 doubles and driving in 4 runs, while first baseman Matt Olson singled, walked twice and slugged a 3-run homer in the top of the 1st, and designated hitter Joey Wendle had 3 hits and drove in a pair to help the Sounds win their third straight on Sunday.

Right fielder Justin Higley continued his hot hitting since being promoted to the Ports, collecting 4 hits, including a pair of doubles, while driving in 3 runs on Sunday. Shortstop Richie Martin had 2 hits, including a 2-run homer, while designated hitter Jose Brizuela singled, homered and walked twice, and second baseman Max Schrock went 1 for 5 in his first game for Stockton since being acquired from Washington in the Marc Rzepczynski trade. RHP Brett Graves had a rough start, allowing 3 runs over 3 innings of work to suffer his 10th loss on Sunday.

The Snappers were shut out on just 4 hits on Sunday. Second baseman Trent Gilbert doubled for Beloit’s only extra-base hit in the loss. RHP Dustin Hurlbutt allowed 1 earned run in his seventh straight start for the Snappers. The 23-year-old struck out 6 over 8 innings of work, but he still ended up suffering his 5th loss on Sunday.

RHP Jesus Zambrano turned in his second straight strong start on Sunday, striking out 5 over 5 shutout innings, and he left with the game a scoreless tie. But RHP Matt Milburn surrendered 3 runs in 3 innings of relief to suffer his 1st loss for the Lake Monsters. Vermont was shut out on 4 hits on Sunday. Catcher Jarrett Costa, shortstop Eli White, third baseman JaVon Shelby and left fielder Luke Persico all singled in the loss.

20-year-old Venezuelan RHP Argenis Blanco was solid once again for the AZL A’s, allowing just 1 unearned run over 5 innings of work, and he left with the game a 1-1 tie on Sunday. 19-year-old Dominican RHP Wandisson Charles picked up the win despite giving up 2 runs in 3 innings of relief, and RHP Nick Highberger got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 3rd save. Catcher Miguel Guzman homered, doubled and drove in a pair, while left fielder Anthony Churlin tripled, doubled and drove in a run for the A’s.
