RHP Argenis Blanco turned in another impressive outing for the AZL A’s, striking out 8 over 5 2/3 shutout innings to earn his 4th win on Thursday, and the 20-year-old Venezuelan has now failed to allow more than 2 earned runs in each of his last 10 appearances. 19-year-old Dominican RHP Wandisson Charles gave up 1 run in 3 1/3 innings of relief to earn his 1st save. This year’s 21st-round draft pick for the A’s, left fielder Kyle Nowlin, had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a pair, while 28th-round second baseman Josh Vidales singled, doubled and drove in a run, and 2015 11th-round center fielder James Terrell walked, doubled in a run and scored twice for the A’s in Thursday’s win.

After failing to allow more than 2 earned runs in any outing at Triple-A, RHP Daniel Mengden had his first rough start this season for the Sounds, giving up 4 runs over 5 innings of work to suffer his 2nd loss for Nashville. LHP Sean Doolittle walked 1 and struck out a pair in 1 scoreless inning of relief in his second rehab appearance for the Sounds. Designated hitter Colin Walsh walked and doubled in a pair, while shortstop Arismendy Alcantara singled twice and drove in a run, and third baseman Matt Chapman went 0 for 3 with a pair of walks in his second game for the Sounds.

This year’s 6th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Brandon Bailey, turned in another strong start for the Lake Monsters, allowing just 1 run while striking out 5 over 5 innings of work, and he left with the game a 1-1 tie on Thursday. But 9th-round LHP Dalton Sawyer gave up 4 runs, 2 earned, in 1 inning of relief to suffer his 2nd loss. Second baseman Eric Marinez doubled and scored, and first baseman Miguel Mercedes drove in Vermont’s sole run with a sacrifice fly as the Lake Monsters lost the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader.
