Third baseman Matt Chapman continued his recent tear for the RockHounds, ripping a pair of home runs, a solo shot in the 4th inning followed by a two-run shot in the 6th, to account for all his team’s runs on Wednesday. The 23-year-old is now 6 for 14 with 4 home runs and 11 RBIs over his last 4 games, and his 28 home runs lead both the A’s organization as well as the Texas League. Meanwhile on the mound, RHP Joel Seddon turned in his second straight outstanding start on Wednesday, allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk over 5 shutout innings to earn his 8th win, while RHP Kyle Finnegan tossed a scoreless 9th to notch his 4th save for Midland.

Designated hitter Renato Nunez homered for the third straight night, notching his 21st home run for Nashville on Wednesday. And the 22-year-old is now tied for fifth in the Pacific Coast League home run race and is second only to Matt Chapman among A’s minor leaguers in that category. Nunez also walked and singled in a run, while third baseman Colin Walsh singled, walked and homered. Starter Dillon Overton allowed 5 runs in 4 innings of work to suffer his 5th loss in his return to the Sounds. Meanwhile, Nashville LHP Ross Detwiler was recalled by Oakland and the A’s designated LHP Patrick Schuster for assignment on Wednesday.

RHP Casey Meisner turned in his second straight solid start for Stockton, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while walking none and striking out 8 over 5 innings of work, and he left the game with a one-run lead on Wednesday. But a passed ball by catcher Iolana Akau and a fielding error by third baseman Melvin Mercedes allowed 2 unearned runs to score off LHP Evan Manarino who took the loss after throwing 3 innings in relief. Second baseman Mikey White singled, doubled and scored a run, while right fielder Seth Brown and left fielder James Harris each singled in a run, and first baseman John Nogowski had a pair of hits for the Ports.

Starter Jesus Zambrano allowed 2 runs over 4 2/3 innings of work, while LHP Tyler Painton gave up 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief, and LHP Will Gilbert surrendered the winning run with one out in the bottom of the 9th to suffer his 2nd loss as the Lake Monsters dropped their tenth straight on Wednesday. Left fielder Rob Bennie singled, doubled and drove in a run, while shortstop Eli White singled, doubled and scored a run. Third baseman JaVon Shelby walked twice and singled in a run, and first baseman Luke Persico and second baseman Eric Marinez each had a pair of hits and drove in a run in the loss.

This year’s 10th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Mitchell Jordan, was solid for the AZL A’s on Wednesday, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 4 over 4 shutout innings. 20-year-old Dominican RHP Miguel Sanchez followed with 3 scoreless frames of his own to earn his 3rd win, and RHP Nick Highberger got the final four outs to post his 2nd save. Catcher Collin Theroux had a pair of doubles and drove in a run, while first baseman Miguel Guzman singled, doubled and drove in a pair for the A’s.
