On Sunday, RHP Raul Alcantara turned in his fourth straight strong start since joining the Sounds last month, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings of work to earn his 3rd win for Nashville. And the 23-year-old has now allowed just 2 earned runs over his first 4 starts for the Sounds. First baseman Rangel Ravelo and shortstop Arismendy Alcantara hit back-to-back home runs in the 7th inning, while third baseman Renato Nunez singled, doubled and drove in a run, and second baseman Joey Wendle had 2 hits and drove in a pair to help the Sounds win their fourth straight. And with Oakland RHP Sonny Gray landing on the disabled list, 35-year-old Nashville RHP Chris Smith, who was second in strikeouts in the Pacific Coast League, was added to the A’s roster on Sunday.

Starter Daniel Gossett allowed 3 runs over 6 1/3 innings to suffer his 5th loss for Midland on Sunday. Catcher Andy Paz singled, doubled, walked and scored the RockHounds’ sole run, while right fielder Tyler Marincov, center fielder Brett Vertigan and designated hitter Beau Taylor all doubled in the loss.

After slugging a grand slam on Saturday night, left fielder B.J. Boyd hit his 8th home run, a solo shot, for Stockton on Sunday. Catcher Argenis Raga had a pair of hits and a walk and drove in a run, while shortstop Richie Martin singled, tripled and scored the tying run. Starter James Naile allowed 2 runs over 5 innings of work to earn his 2nd win, while RHP Joey Wagman threw 3 scoreless innings in relief, and LHP Cody Stull pitched a perfect 9th to notch his 2nd save for Stockton.

The Snappers were shut out on 6 hits to suffer their fifth straight loss on Sunday. First baseman Chris Iriart singled and walked twice, while catcher Jose Chavez doubled for Beloit’s only extra-base hit of the game. For his third straight start, RHP Dustin Hurlbutt allowed just 1 earned run, but it wasn’t enough to keep him from suffering the loss after throwing 7 2/3 innings on Sunday. In other news, infielder/outfielder Jean Carlo Rodriguez was placed on the disabled list on Sunday.

RHP Xavier Altamirano had a rare rough start for Vermont, allowing 6 runs, 5 earned, over 4 2/3 innings to suffer his 2nd loss for the Lake Monsters on Sunday. RHP Matt Milburn surrendered 5 runs in 2 innings of relief in his first game since arriving from the Arizona League. Center fielder Tyler Ramirez reached base 4 times, on a pair of hits and a pair of walks, and catcher Jarrett Costa went 0 for 4 in his Vermont debut as the Lake Monsters lost their seventh straight on Sunday.

First Baseman Charley Gould

This year’s 26th-round draft pick for the A’s, first baseman Charley Gould, had a pair of hits and drove in 4 runs, including the tying run in the top of the 9th inning for the AZL A’s on Sunday. Left fielder Cole Gruber tripled, walked twice and scored twice, while third baseman Javier Godard had 2 hits and a walk and drove in a pair. 20-year-old Dominican RHP Yeudy Minaya allowed just 1 unearned run over 3 innings of work to get things off to a good start for the A’s, but RHP Nick Highberger ultimately allowed the winning run to score in the bottom of the 11th to suffer his 2nd loss on Sunday.
