RHP Jharel Cotton, who was recently acquired from the Dodgers in the Josh Reddick/ Rich Hill deal, was impressive in his first start for the Sounds, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn his 9th win on Thursday. The 24-year-old also struck out 5 to raise his season strikeout total to 124 in 103 1/3 innings, and he reclaimed the Pacific Coast League strikeout lead from new teammate Chris Smith. RHP J.B. Wendelken gave up 2 runs in 1 inning of relief, but RHP Eduard Santos got the final out in the 9th to notch his 4th save for Nashville. Third baseman Renato Nunez had a big night at the plate, hitting his 18th home run and his 17th double and driving in 4 runs, while right fielder Brett Eibner singled, doubled, walked and scored twice for the Sounds. And with RHP Jesse Hahn returning to the A’s to make Thursday’s start for Oakland, RHP Andrew Triggs was optioned back to Nashville.

RHP Joel Seddon delivered an outstanding start for the RockHounds on Thursday, allowing 1 run while striking out 5 over 6 innings of work to earn his 7th win for Midland. Catcher Andy Paz had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in 2 runs, while right fielder Tyler Marincov singled, doubled twice and scored twice, and left fielder J.P. Sportman singled, doubled, stole a base and and drove in a pair of runs for the RockHounds.

RHP Casey Meisner turned in a strong start for Stockton on Thursday, allowing 1 run over 5 innings of work, and he left the game with a two-run lead. RHP Matt Sergey surrendered 3 runs in 2 innings of relief to allow San Jose to take the lead, but LHP Cody Stull pitched 3 perfect innings to pick up his 3rd win for the Ports. Shortstop Richie Martin walked, tripled and doubled in the winning run in the top of the 11th inning, while right fielder James Harris had 3 hits, including an RBI double to tie the game in the top of the 9th, and second baseman Mikey White and first baseman Sandber Pimentel both singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Ports.

RHP Brendan Butler had a shaky start for the Snappers, allowing 6 runs over 5 innings of work to suffer his 2nd loss in Thursday’s rain-shortened game. Beloit managed just 2 hits in the loss. Shortstop Jesus Lopez doubled in a run, while third baseman Ryan Howell singled and scored for the Snappers.

This year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Logan Shore, allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk over 2 scoreless innings in his first start for Vermont on Thursday. LHP Ivan Andueza gave up 5 runs, 4 earned, in 3 2/3 innings of relief, and LHP Derek Beasley surrendered 5 runs over 2 1/3 innings to suffer the loss for the Lake Monsters. Third baseman JaVon Shelby singled and homered, while center fielder Luis Barrera singled, doubled and drove in a pair, and right fielder Jhonny Rodriguez double twice and scored twice as the Lake Monsters lost their fourth straight on Thursday. .
