WP – Alcantara 1-0 / 0.00

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Raul Alcantara

(7 IP / 7 H / 0 ER / 0 BB / 5 K / Win)

On Wednesday afternoon, RHP Raul Alcantara turned in his second straight impressive start since joining the Sounds last week. The 23-year-old allowed 7 hits while walking none and striking out 5 over 7 shutout innings to earn the win, while RHP Ryan Brasier tossed a scoreless 8th, and LHP Patrick Schuster pitched a perfect 9th to complete the 7-hit shutout and pick up his 7th save for the Sounds. Alcantara, who was acquired at the end of 2011 from the Red Sox along with Josh Reddick and Miles Head in return for Andrew Bailey and Ryan Sweeney, has now failed to allow an earned run or a walk in 14 innings over his first 2 starts for Nashville. The Sounds managed just 5 hits on the day. Catcher Matt McBride and third baseman Renato Nunez both singled and drove in runs in the win. And with McBride returning to the roster, catcher Jarrett Costa was sent back to the AZL A’s on Wednesday.

Third baseman Matt Chapman smacked his league-leading 23rd home run, a 2-run shot in the 3rd inning, while shortstop Franklin Barreto belted his 8th home run in the bottom of the 1st to lead things off for Midland, then singled and scored in the 3rd and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the 7th to complete the scoring for the RockHounds.
