RHP Heath Fillmyer turned in an impressive start in just his second outing for the RockHounds. The 22-year-old tossed a 5-inning, 1-hit shutout to earn the win in a game abbreviated by rain on Tuesday. And in his first two starts for Midland, Fillmyer has allowed 2 runs and struck out 8 over 10 innings of work. Designated hitter Beau Taylor belted a 2-run homer, while left fielder Josh Rodriguez singled in a pair of runs, and shortstop Franklin Barreto went 2 for 3 with a double in his return to action after sitting out nine games with a hamstring issue.

Starter Chris Jensen allowed 4 runs over 5 innings of work to suffer his 4th loss for the Sounds, while RHP Andrew Triggs gave up 1 run in 1 inning of relief in a rehab appearance, and RHP Aaron Kurcz threw 3 scoreless innings for Nashville. Right fielder Matt Olson singled and slugged his 12th home run, while second baseman Joey Wendle and designated hitter Colin Walsh both doubled in the loss. With catcher Stephen Vogt returning to the active roster for the A’s on Tuesday, catcher Matt McBride was optioned back to Nashville, as was RHP Daniel Mengden, while RHP J.B. Wendelken was recalled by Oakland, and Triggs was sent to the Sounds on a rehab assignment.

Just like Stockton starter Matt Sergey on Monday, RHP Michael Murray suffered through a rough start in the high desert air of High Desert on Tuesday, allowing 9 runs on 8 hits, including 3 home runs, over 3 2/3 innings to suffer his 1st loss for the Ports. Stockton was shut out on just 4 hits on Tuesday. Center fielder Seth Brown, third baseman Jose Brizuela, right fielder Joe Bennie and left fielder James Harris all singled in the loss.

Designated hitter Miguel Mercedes homered for the third straight game on Tuesday, smashing a 2-run shot in the 2nd inning, while first baseman Miguel Guzman slugged a solo shot. Right fielder Luis Barrera collected 3 hits, and shortstop Eli White singled, tripled and drove in a pair for Vermont. Starter Dakota Chalmers allowed 4 runs over 4 innings of work, while Dalton Sawyer gave up 2 runs in 2 innings of relief to take the loss for the Lake Monsters.

This year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, 19-year-old RHP Skylar Szynski, allowed just 1 hit over 2 scoreless innings to get things off to a good start for the AZL A’s on Tuesday. RockHounds RHP Kris Hall tossed 1 scoreless inning of relief in a rehab appearance, but RHP Joseph Camacho gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss on Tuesday. This year’s 21st-round pick, designated hitter Kyle Nowlin, collected a pair of doubles and a walk, while first baseman Charley Gould singled, doubled, walked and drove in a run in the loss.
