RHP Chris Smith turned in an impressive start for the Sounds, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits while walking none and striking out 10 on Tuesday. Smith earned his 5th win and also took back the Pacific Coast League strikeout lead with 90 on the season. Second baseman Joey Wendle walked twice and slugged his 7th home run, while right fielder Matt Olson singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice. Left fielder Tyler Ladendorf collected a pair of hits, and shortstop Chad Pinder and center fielder Jaycob Brugman both singled and drove in runs for the Sounds. And with Josh Reddick returning from the disabled list for the A’s, Max Muncy was optioned back to Nashville on Tuesday.

Kyle Friedrichs had another solid start for Stockton on Tuesday, allowing 2 runs over 6 innings of work, and he left with the game a 2-2 tie. But LHP Victor Veliz was charged with 5 runs in just 2/3 of an inning of relief to take the loss. Right fielder Seth Brown singled, doubled, walked, drove in a run and scored twice, while catcher Iolana Akau and first baseman John Nogowski both doubled in runs, and second baseman Mikey White had a pair of hits and drove in a run in the loss.

After having a rare rough outing his last time out, LHP Evan Manarino bounced back with another strong start for Beloit, allowing 2 runs over 7 innings of work, and he left with the game a 2-2 tie on Tuesday. And the game remain knotted until RHP Armando Ruiz surrendered a run in the top of the 11th inning. But shortstop Trace Loehr doubled in catcher Jordan Devencenzi, who’d singled, to tie the game again in the bottom of the 11th. And then with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 12th, center fielder Mike Martin singled to bring home the winning run as Beloit won in a walk-off on Tuesday. Martin had 3 hits, including a double, and walked in the game, while third baseman Edwin Diaz had a pair of hits and drove in a run. Left fielder Justin Higley singled, doubled, walked and scored twice, and RHP Rob Huber picked up the win after tossing a scoreless frame in the top of the 12th for the Snappers.

Catcher Robert Mullen slugged a grand slam with one out in the top of the 8th inning for the AZL A’s on Tuesday, and Mullen also doubled in the 2nd but was left stranded. This year’s 7th-round draft pick for the A’s, designated hitter Tyler Ramirez, doubled twice and drove in 3 runs, while 24th-round right fielder Robert Bennie had 3 hits, including a double, and 26th-round first baseman Charles Gould walked twice and singled in a pair. 10th-round RHP Mitchell Jordan tossed 2 scoreless frames, while last year’s 5th-round pick, LHP Kevin Duchene, allowed just 1 unearned run in 3 innings of relief to pick up his 1st professional win for the A’s.

 

In Other News…

In the Texas League All-Star Game on Tuesday, Midland’s Franklin Barreto started at second base for the South Division All-Stars and doubled, stole a base and scored a run in 2 at-bats, while third baseman Matt Chapman, catcher Beau Taylor and Wade Kirkland, who replaced Barreto at second, all went 0 for 2, and RHP Andres Avila gave up 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief as the South Division All-Stars bested the North Division All-Stars by a score of 8-5 on Tuesday.
