After starting off the season with four straight losses, Vermont tallied its first victory of the season on Tuesday. 21-year-old RHP Xavier Altamirano, the A’s 27th-round draft pick last year, had his season get off to a rough start when he posted a 4.85 ERA for Beloit before landing on the disabled list for the Snappers. But he was impressive in his debut for the Lake Monsters on Tuesday, allowing just 2 hits while walking none and striking out 6 over 5 shutout innings, and he left the game with a 1-run lead. RHP Jesus Zambrano then gave up 1 run in 2 2/3 innings of relief to tie the game. But RHP Tyler Willman, 2014’s 12th-round pick, pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings to pick up his first professional win after the Lake Monsters came back to plate the winning run in the bottom of the 8th. Left fielder Luis Barrera and right fielder Jhonny Rodriguez each had a pair of hits and drove in a run to help lead Vermont to victory on Tuesday.

Third baseman Matt Chapman and shortstop Franklin Barreto both blasted home runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to give the RockHounds an early lead on Tuesday. Barreto also walked and stole a base in the 6th but was left stranded. Starter James Naile allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work and exited with his team down by a run, but catcher Beau Taylor doubled in a pair of runs with two outs in the 7th to help the Hounds take back the lead. RHP Kyle Finnegan tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, but RHP Jake Sanchez surrendered 2 runs in the top of the 9th to take the loss for the RockHounds.
