TEXAS LEAGUE  (Double-A)

Corpus Christi Hooks     6

Midland RockHounds  7

WP – Bragg 1-1 / 11.57

Prospect Of The Game:

Second Baseman Wade Kirkland

(4 for 5 / Double / 2 RBIs)

With one out and a man on third in the bottom of the 10th inning, second baseman Wade Kirkland singled to center field to drive in the winning run as the RockHounds won in a walk-off on Sunday. Kirkland collected a total of 4 hits in the game, including a double, and also drove in a run in the 2nd. Outfielders J.P. Sportman and Tyler Marincov had 3 hits apiece and each drove in a run for the RockHounds, while first baseman John Nogowski went 1 for 4 in his first game for Midland since being promoted from the Ports. Starter Joey Wagman allowed 2 runs over 5 innings of work, and the Hounds held the lead when he left the game before throwing a pitch in the top of the 6th inning with an apparent blister. But RHP Kris Hall was charged with 3 runs in the 7th, while RHP Bobby Wahl surrendered the tying run in the top of the 9th to send the game to extra innings, and RHP Sam Bragg wound up picking up the win after tossing a scoreless top of the 10th for Midland. Meanwhile, with Nashville LHP Daniel Coulombe joining the A’s, RockHounds RHP Ryan Doolittle was reassigned to the Sounds, and Stockton RHP Kyle Finnegan was sent to the Hounds on Sunday.

LP – Doolittle 0-1 / 10.80

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Angel Castro

(5 IP / 4 H / 1 ER / 0 BB / 3 K)

RHP Angel Castro made the start in place of scheduled starter Zach Neal on Sunday and ended up allowing just 1 run in 5 innings of work for the Sounds. And it’s possible that Neal was held out of Sunday’s game so that he’ll be available to make next Wednesday’s start in place of the injured Sonny Gray for the A’s. With LHP Daniel Coulombe recalled by Oakland, RHP Ryan Doolittle was reassigned to the Sounds from Midland and made his debut on Sunday, allowing 2 runs in the top of the 6th to take the loss as Nashville saw its 7-game winning streak snapped. Josh Phegley, making his second rehab appearance for the Sounds, served as Castro’s catcher on Sunday and also went 2 for 4 in the game, while left fielder Andrew Lambo and designated hitter Ryon Healy both doubled in the loss.

CALIFORNIA LEAGUE  (High-A)

Prospect Of The Game:

First Baseman Sandber Pimentel

(1 for 3 / Home Run / Walk)

Starter Heath Fillmyer allowed 2 runs, just 1 earned, over 5 1/3 innings and ended up suffering his 3rd loss for Stockton on Sunday. First baseman Sandber Pimentel slugged a home run in the bottom of the 2nd to briefly tie the game, while catcher Iolana Akau singled in a pair in the 9th. Shortstop Mikey White doubled twice and drew a walk, and right fielder Seth Brown and third baseman Jose Brizuela had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. Meanwhile, last year’s #1 draft pick for the A’s, shortstop Richie Martin, is set to join Stockton on Monday after making his recovery from knee surgery. And with RockHounds RHP Ryan Doolittle reassigned to the Sounds, Stockton RHP Kyle Finnegan was sent to Midland and LHP Victor Veliz was added to the Ports roster on Sunday.

HR – Iriart (8)

jn664942

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher James Naile

(8 IP / 5 H / 1 ER / 0 BB / 4 K)

RHP James Naile turned in another strong start for the Snappers, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits while walking none and striking out 4 over 8 innings of work, but he left with the game a 1-1 tie on Sunday. And the game remained knotted until the top of the 11th when designated hitter Chris Iriart, who’d struck out 4 times in the game, slugged a 2-run homer to provide the margin of victory for the Snappers. LHP Jared Lyons tossed a scoreless 9th and 10th to post his 2nd win, while RHP Cody Kurz pitched a perfect frame in the bottom of the 11th to pick up his 4th save.
