Pitcher Daniel Mengden

RHP Daniel Mengden turned in another stellar start for the Sounds on Friday, allowing 1 run on just 2 hits while walking 1 and striking our 3 over 7 innings of work, and he exited after throwing 95 pitches – 60 strikes and 35 balls. The 23-year-old held Iowa scoreless through the first 6 innings before allowing a solo home run to lead off the inning in the 7th. Mengden’s 6 shutout frames ran his scoreless streak since joining Nashville to 19 innings, and he’s now allowed 1 run over 20 innings of work for the Sounds. (You can check out out recent interview with Mengden here). After throwing 7 solid innings, Mengden left the game with a one-run lead on Friday, but RHP J.B. Wendelken surrendered 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss as Iowa came back to win in a walk-off. Shortstop Chad Pinder slugged his 2nd home run, a solo shot, in the 2nd inning, while second baseman Joey Wendle had a pair of hits and stole a base, and third baseman Max Muncy singled and walked in the loss. Meanwhile, the A’s optioned RHP Zach Neal back to Nashville and recalled catcher/outfielder Matt McBride, while catcher Jordan Devencenzi was assigned to the Sounds roster.

Starter Joel Seddon allowed 2 runs in 4 innings of work on Friday. First baseman Ryon Healy hit his 8th home run to tie the game in the top of the 8th, but RHP Kris Hall gave up a two-out home run in the bottom of the 10th to take the loss as San Antonio won in a walk-off. Left fielder J.P. Sportman singled, doubled and drove in a run in the loss.

Starter Casey Meisner gave up 3 runs in 4 innings of work to suffer his 5th loss for Stockton. The Ports scored just 1 run on 5 hits on Friday, but second baseman Joe Bennie managed to reach base 5 times, on 4 walks and a single. Third baseman Jose Brizuela and center fielder B.J. Boyd both doubled in the loss.
