WP – Healy 1-0 / 3.55

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Daniel Mengden

(7 IP / 4 H / 0 ER / 0 BB / 8 K)

RHP Daniel Mengden delivered another impressive start for the Sounds, allowing just 4 hits while walking none and striking out 8 over 7 shutout innings on Sunday. The 23-year-old has now thrown 13 scoreless frames since joining Nashville and has allowed just 2 runs over 6 starts while posting a 0.50 ERA in 36 innings for Midland and Nashville this season. After issuing 12 walks in 23 innings at Midland, Mengden had been working on reducing his walk rate and he showed his best control yet this season in Sunday’s game by not issuing a single free pass in 7 frames. Mengden left the game with a 2-run lead, and RHP Angel Castro then pitched a perfect 8th. But RHP Tucker Healy vultured the win by giving up a 2-run homer in the top of the 9th to allow Memphis to tie the game before Nashville won in a walk-off in the bottom of the 9th, thanks to left fielder Andrew Lambo’s 2-out RBI single that brought home center fielder Jake Smolinski for the winning run. Smolinski had a pair of hits, drove in the Sounds’ first run in the bottom of the 1st and swiped 3 bases to help the Sounds win their second straight. And in other news, reliever J.B. Wendelken was recalled by the A’s, while starting pitcher Jesse Hahn was optioned back to Nashville on Sunday.

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Bobby Wahl

(3 IP / 1 H / 0 ER / 1 BB / 3 K)

After tossing a spotless 1st inning and then throwing a few warm-up pitches before the 2nd inning, starter Dylan Covey exited Sunday’s game with what appears to have been a strained oblique muscle. RHP Trey-Cohran-Gill then came on and allowed 3 runs in 3 innings of relief to take the loss, but RHP Bobby Wahl, making his way back after last year’s arm surgery, had his best outing of the season, striking out 3 over 3 scoreless frames. The 24-year-old threw 28 strikes and just 9 balls for the RockHounds. Right fielder Jaycob Brugman and designated hitter Viosergy Rosa both doubled in the game, while left fielder J.P. Sportman singled in the Hounds’ first run and then stole a base in the 2nd inning. Second baseman Yairo Munoz singled, walked, stole a base and scored a run, and shortstop Franklin Barreto went 0 for 4 in his return to the starting lineup after fouling a ball off his leg in Thursday’s game.

RHP Dylan Covey: 1 IP / 0 H / 0 ER / 0 BB / 2 K

RHP Trey Cochran-Gill: 3 IP / 5 H / 3 ER / 2 BB / 2 K

LF J.P. Sportman: 1 for 4 / RBI / SB

2B Yairo Munoz: 1 for 3 / Walk / SB

Second baseman Joe Bennie reached base 4 times, on 2 hits and 2 walks, and drove in a run, while center fielder B.J. Boyd singled, walked, stole a base and drove in a pair for the Ports.

2B Joe Bennie: 2 for 3 / 2 Walks / RBI
