Starter Daniel Mengden was dominant in his Triple-A debut on Monday, tossing 6 shutout innings to earn the win in his first start for the Sounds. Prior to joining Nashville, the 23-year-old allowed just 2 runs over 4 impressive starts for Midland, and Sounds play-by-play man Jeff Hem described Mengden’s stuff as “electric” on Monday. The 4th-round draft pick for the Astros in 2014, who was acquired last summer in the Scott Kazmir trade, now has a 0.62 ERA over 5 starts for Midland and Nashville this season. RHP Eduard Santos gave up 1 run in 3 innings of relief to pick up his 2nd save for the Sounds. Third baseman Renato Nunez was Nashville’s hitting star of the night, collecting a single, a triple and a home run and driving in a pair of runs, while center fielder Jake Smolinski singled, doubled, stole a base and scored twice for the Sounds.

Shorstop Franklin Barreto had a big night at the plate in Midland’s 11-run effort on Monday. Barreto belted his 3rd home run to put his team on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning. And the 20-year-old slugger collected a pair of singles, swiped a pair of bases and drove in a pair of runs in the game. Third baseman Matt Chapman hit his organization-leading 8th home run to tie the game in the 3rd, while catcher Beau Taylor, left fielder J.P. Sportman, center fielder Jaycob Brugman and designated hitter Viosergy Rosa had a pair of hits apiece for the Hounds. Starter Joel Seddon surrendered 5 runs in 4 innings of work, while RHP Ben Bracewell picked up the win despite giving up 3 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Ryan Doolittle, despite some scary moments in the 9th, got the final three outs to earn his 1st save and extend his scoreless streak to 11 1/3 innings on the season.

After notching just 4 extra-base hits, all doubles, during the first month of the season, designated hitter Sandber Pimentel exploded for 2 home runs to account for all of Stockton’s scoring on Monday. A’s third baseman Danny Valencia went 0 for 3 in his first rehab appearance for the Ports. Starter Casey Meisner allowed 3 unearned runs in the 2nd inning, with the help of a 3-base error by right fielder Seth Brown, while striking out 7 over 6 innings of work to suffer his 3rd loss for Stockton.

Pitcher Evan Manarino

Starter Evan Manarino was solid once again for the Snappers, allowing just 2 hits over 5 shutout innings on Monday to lower his ERA to 0.70, and Manarino left the game with a 2-run lead. RHP Xavier Altamirano gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, in 3 innings of relief to lose the lead but ended up earning the victory when the Snappers came back to score twice in the top of the 9th, and RHP Kevin Johnson pitched a perfect 9th to pick up his 1st save. Center fielder Skye Bolt belted his 2nd home run to put Beloit on the board in the top of the 1st, and shortstop Trace Loehr returned from the disabled list to triple in a pair of runs in the top of the 9th for the Snappers.
