RHP Daniel Mengden, who was acquired last summer from from the Astros in the Scott Kazmir trade, delivered his second straight dominant start for the RockHounds on Friday. The 23-year-old Texas native allowed just 2 hits while striking out 8 over 6 shutout innings, and he has now struck out 16 over 12 scoreless frames in his first two starts of the season. When Mengden exited after the 6th inning, the game was a scoreless tie, and it remained that way until first baseman Ryon Healy led off the bottom of the 9th by blasting a home run, his second in the last two days, into the left field bullpen to give the RockHounds the walk-off win. RHP Trey Cochran-Gill tossed a scoreless 7th and 8th, and RHP Aaron Kurcz got the last three outs in the top of the 9th to pick up the win for Midland.

Third baseman Renato Nunez homered with one out in the 6th inning to tie the game and right fielder Matt Olson then followed with another round-tripper to give the Sounds the lead. Nunez singled and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly, while Olson also singled and walked in the game, and shortstop Chad Pinder singled, doubled and drove in a pair. Second baseman Joey Wendle dropped what should have been the third out in the third inning, and the next batter then doubled to clear the bases and saddle starter Zach Neal with 3 unearned runs in the game. Neal still picked up the win, while RHP Angel Castro tossed a scoreless 9th for the save.

With the game tied 10-10 after 13 innings and already having used 5 different pitchers, the Ports put first baseman John Nogowski on the mound, and he remained on the mound for the next 4 innings, tossing 4 scoreless frames to pick up the win as Stockton bested Modesto in 17 innings on Friday. Right fielder Seth Brown had a big game, collecting a pair of doubles, a single, a walk and a stolen base while driving in 4 runs, including the final run in the 17th.
