Outfielder Jaycob Brugman reached base on a fielding error and scored the RockHounds’ first run in the 1st inning, doubled in a run in the 2nd, walked but was forced out at home in the 5th, and then hit a 2-run homer to extend Midland’s lead to 6 in the 6th inning. Third baseman Ryon Healy collected 4 hits and drove in a run, while designated hitter Renato Nunez had a pair of singles and drove in 3 as Midland bested Corpus Christi to go up two games to one in the best-of-five Texas League South Division Championship Series on Friday. Starter Chris Jensen allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work to pick up the win for the RockHounds. RHP Tucker Healy followed up with a scoreless 7th, while RHP Jonathan Joseph gave up 2 runs in the top of the 8th, and LHP Jeff Urlaub got the final three outs in the 9th to close things out for Midland. The RockHounds now just need to win one of their next two games at home to prevail over Corpus Christi in the series. RHP Jake Sanchez is set to take the mound as Midland tries to clinch the series on Saturday.

Shortstop Yairo Munoz homered in the 1st inning, and outfielder Brett Vertigan and designated hitter J.P. Sportman hit back-to-back home runs in the 3rd to provide all the scoring for the Ports on Friday. LHP Matt Stalcup turned in a solid start for Stockton, allowing just 1 run while striking out 6 over 5 innings of work, and he left the game with a 2-run lead. LHP Jose Torres followed with 2 scoreless innings in relief, but RHP Ben Bracewell gave up 2 runs to tie the game in the top of the 8th. RHPs Corey Walter and Sam Bragg both tossed 3 scoreless innings, and the game remained tied until RHP Lou Trivino surrendered 2 runs in the top of the 15th to take the loss as Stockton dropped the decisive game in the best-of-three California League North Division Mini-Series on Friday.
