With the game tied 2-2, the RockHounds put 7 runs on the board in the top of the 9th to even the best-of-five Texas League South Division Championship Series on Thursday. Designated hitter Renato Nunez capped the scoring by slugging his third grand slam in his last five games. Nunez also singled in the game, while left fielder Josh Whitaker had a pair of singles and homered for the second straight day. First baseman Anthony Aliotti had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run in the 9th, and right fielder Matt Olson had a pair of hits and singled in the RockHounds’ first run in the 2nd. LHP Sean Manaea turned in another impressive start for Midland, allowing 2 runs on just 3 hits while walking none and striking out 8 over 7 innings of work, but he left with the game a 2-2 tie. And LHP Jeff Urlaub got the last two outs in the 8th to pick up the win for the RockHounds. The series shifts to Midland on Friday with RHP Chris Jensen taking the mound for the Hounds.

With the Ports facing elimination in the best-of-three California League North Division Mini-Series on Thursday, RHP Daniel Mengden delivered a strong start for Stockton, allowing 2 runs on just 4 hits while walking none and striking out 7 over 6 innings of work to earn the win and even up the series. RHP Sam Bragg struck out the side in the 7th for Stockton, while RHP Ben Bracewell pitched a perfect 8th, and RHP Corey Walter got the final three outs to record the save. Right fielder Tyler Marincov singled and slugged a 2-run homer in the 5th, while center fielder Brett Vertigan had 2 hits and singled in the go-ahead run in the 4th, and left fielder B.J. Boyd and first baseman John Nogowski had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. LHP Matt Stalcup is set to take the mound for the decisive game in Stockton on Friday.
