Things got off to a rough start for RHP Parker Frazier on Wednesday. The 26-year-old minor league veteran gave up 6 runs in the first 3 innings and ended up allowing 7 runs over 5 innings of work to take the loss in the first game of the best-of-five Texas League South Division Championship Series. RHP Andres Avila gave up 2 more runs in 2 innings of relief, while RHP Kris Hall pitched a perfect 8th for the Hounds. Left fielder Josh Whitaker slugged a home run to briefly tie the game in the top of the 2nd, while designated hitter Renato Nunez singled in a run for Midland in the 1st, and center fielder Chad Oberacker doubled, walked and scored a run for the RockHounds. LHP Sean Manaea will take the mound as Midland attempts to even the series at Corpus Christi on Thursday.

RHP Dylan Covey, who was Stockton’s most reliable starter over the course of the season, had a rocky outing on Wednesday and ended up being charged with 5 runs, 4 earned, on 10 hits over 4 innings of work to take the loss in the first game of the best-of-three California League North Division Mini-Series. RHP Lou Trivino pitched 2 perfect frames in relief, while RHP Sam Roberts allowed 2 unearned runs in 2/3 of an inning, and RHP Carlos Navas got the final four outs for the Ports. Designated hitter Franklin Barreto doubled in Stockton’s first run in the top of the 5th and also singled in the game, while center fielder Brett Vertigan singled, walked and scored a run, and shortstop Yairo Munoz had a pair of hits for the Ports. The series shifts to Stockton on Thursday as the Ports try to stave off elimination with RHP Daniel Mengden on the mound.
