The RockHounds scored 21 runs on Saturday, 11 of them in the 9th inning. Designated hitter Renato Nunez collected 5 hits and doubled in a run in the 7th, hit a grand slam in the 9th and then singled in another run in the 9th to give him 6 RBIs on the night. Right fielder Josh Whitaker singled twice, homered, doubled and drove in 5, while left fielder Jaycob Brugman singled, doubled, walked and drove in 3, and catcher Beau Taylor, shortstop Wade Kirkland and third baseman Ryon Healy had 3 hits apiece for the Hounds. With RHP Tim Atherton landing back on the disabled list, RHP Junior Mendez was called up from Beloit to make the start. And Mendez allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and 5 walks over 5 innings of work to earn the win in his Double-A debut on Saturday.

Brent Morel, getting a rare start in right field on Saturday, collected 4 hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in 5 runs, while left fielder Ryan Roberts ripped a 3-run homer, and center fielder Craig Gentry and second baseman Joey Wendle had a pair of hits apiece for the Sounds. 19-year-old RHP Jesus Zambrano allowed 2 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings of work to earn the win in his second start for the Sounds. RHP Trevor Bayless tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, while RHP Taylor Thompson gave up 3 runs in just 2/3 of an inning, and RHP Angel Castro got the final four outs to notch his 8th save for Nashville.

RHP Casey Meisner, acquired from the Mets in the Tyler Clippard trade, turned in his fourth straight strong start for Stockton on Saturday, striking out 4 over 5 shutout innings to earn his 3rd win for the Ports. And Meisner has now allowed just 2 runs while walking none and striking out 19 in 20 innings over his last 4 starts. RHP Corey Walter tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to post his 8th save for Stockton. Outfielder Tyler Marincov singled, doubled, walked and drove in a pair, while catcher Jacob Nottingham singled, doubled, walked and drove in a run. Shortstop Franklin Barreto and oufielder J.P. Sportman both returned from the disabled list on Saturday. Barreto went 1 for 4, while Sportman had a pair of hits and a walk and drove in a run for the Ports. And with their return to the active roster, pitchers Matt Stalcup and Daniel Mengden were reassigned to the AZL A’s.

With RHP Junior Mendez moving up to Midland, RHP Kevin Johnson was called on to make the last-minute start for the Snappers and ended up allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, over 4 innings of work to suffer his 7th loss. Beloit scored just 1 run on 5 hits on Saturday. Designated hitter Jose Brizuela singled and homered to provide the Snappers only run in the loss.

With the game tied in the top of the 7th, right fielder Brett Siddall slugged his 3rd home run of the season to provide the go-ahead run for Vermont on Saturday. Siddall also singled in a run and walked twice, while center fielder Skye Bolt singled, doubled and drove in 4 runs. Designated hitter Chris Iriart homered, doubled and drove in 2, and third baseman Ryan Howell singled, doubled and drove in a pair. Starter Chris Kohler allowed 1 run in 3 innings of work, while RHP Heath Bowers also gave up 1 run over 3 innings to earn his 3rd win, and LHP Evan Manarino picked up his 1st save despite giving up 4 runs in 3 innings of relief for the Lake Monsters.
