With the game tied in the bottom of the 8th, designated hitter Nate Freiman slugged his second home run in the last two days to provide the winning run for the Sounds on Wednesday. Freiman also singled and drew a pair of walks in the game, while second baseman Joey Wendle hit his 9th home run in the 6th. Third baseman Brent Morel singled in a pair of runs, and first baseman Max Muncy singled and doubled in the tying run in the 7th. Starter Nate Long had another rocky outing for the Sounds, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, over 6 2/3 innings of work and left the game with his team down by 4 runs, while RHP Trevor Bayless picked up the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Angel Castro got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 7th save. Meanwhile, the A’s optioned RHP Cody Martin back to Nashville on Wednesday.

RHP Parker Frazier had his second straight shaky start for Midland on Wednesday, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, over 6 innings of work to suffer his 3rd loss, while LHP Omar Duran gave up 6 more runs in 2 innings of relief for the RockHounds. Midland managed just 1 run on 6 hits on Wednesday. First baseman Matt Olson collected a pair of doubles and swiped third base in the 2nd inning, while third baseman Ryon Healy had a pair of singles in the loss.

First baseman John Nogowski had 2 hits and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the 4th inning, while outfielder B.J. Boyd tripled and scored. Second baseman Branden Cogswell had a pair of singles, and third baseman Matt Chapman went 0 for 4 in his return from the disabled list for the Ports. And with Chapman’s return to the roster, Stockton second baseman Trent Gilbert was reassigned to the AZL A’s.

RHP Joey Wagman had a rough start for the Snappers, allowing 6 runs, 5 earned, over 5 innings of work to take his 4th loss on Wednesday. Outfielder Shawn Duinkerk and shortstop Mikey White each had a pair of hits and drove in a run, while outfielder Joe Bennie and designated hitter Jose Brizuela both singled and drove in runs for the Snappers.

Center fielder Skye Bolt had 3 hits, including his 4th home run, while left fielder Brett Siddall doubled in Vermont’s first run in the bottom of the 2nd, and shortstop Richie Martin had a pair of hits in the loss.

Starter Kevin Ferreras gave up just 1 run in 4 innings of work and left the game with a 2-run lead, while LHP Tyler Painton allowed 1 unearned run in 2 innings of relief to pick up the win, and RHP James Naile got the final three outs to earn his 5th save for Vermont. First baseman Seth Brown belted his 3rd home run in the bottom of the 1st and shortstop Richie Martin tripled in a run in the 1st as the Lake Monsters won the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
