After being down by 5 runs after just 3 innings on Tuesday, Stockton staged a startling comeback victory by putting 9 runs on the board over the next 5 innings. Right fielder Tyler Marincov drove in 4 of those runs – one on a single in the 4th, two on a double in the 6th and a final one on a sacrifice fly in the 7th. Center fielder Brett Vertigan had 3 hits, drove in a run and scored twice, while left fielder B.J. Boyd had 2 hits and a walk, stole a base and drove in a run, and second baseman Branden Cogswell and designated hitter Michael Soto had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. RHP Daniel Mengden had a shaky start for Stockton, allowing 5 runs over 3 innings of work, while RHP Sam Roberts pitched 3 perfect innings in relief to pick up the win, and RHP Ben Bracewell got the final seven outs to post his 6th save for Stockton.

RHP Jake Sanchez had a rough outing in his first start for the Sounds, allowing 7 runs in just 3 innings of work to take the loss, but RHP Trevor Bayless tossed 2 scoreless innings in his Nashville debut. First baseman Nate Frieman hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 9th, while left fielder Andy Parrino tripled in a run in the 9th. Catcher Bryan Anderson singled and doubled, and right fielder James Harris went 0 for 3 with 3 strikeouts, a walk and a stolen base in his first game for Nashville. In addition to Harris, Bayless and Sanchez, catcher Nick Rickles, LHP Victor Veliz and RHPs Ryan Brasier and Tanner Peters have joined the Sounds in the past couple of days. And catcher Carson Blair, outfielder Jason Pridie, infielder Tyler Ladendorf and RHPs Cody Martin, Dan Otero, R.J. Alvarez, Arnold Leon and Ryan Dull all moved on up to join the A’s on Tuesday.

Starter Dillon Overton turned in his third straight scoreless outing for Midland, striking out 7 over 4 2/3 shutout innings. He was pulled with a 2-run lead and 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th inning after throwing 88 pitches on Tuesday. And Overton’s now thrown 14 2/3 scoreless innings over his last 3 starts for the RockHounds. RHP Andres Avila picked up the win despite giving up 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief, and RHP Seth Frankoff got the final three outs in the 9th to earn his 8th save. Catcher Beau Taylor had 2 hits and drove in a pair, while second baseman Colin Walsh walked twice and drove in the winning run in the 7th, and outfielder Chad Oberacker singled, doubled and crossed the plate to score the winning run for the RockHounds.

RHP Brett Graves had a rocky start for the Snappers, allowing 4 runs over 5 innings of work, but he still managed to leave the game with a 5-run lead on Tuesday. RHP Jon Massad then gave up 3 runs in just 1 inning of relief, and LHP Cody Stull surrendered 3 more runs in 1 1/3 innings to take the loss. Right fielder Shawn Duinkerk doubled, singled twice and drove in 3 runs, while left fielder Max Kuhn hit a 2-run homer. Catcher Argenis Raga had 3 hits, including a double, and scored twice, and third baseman Jose Brizuela singled, doubled and drove in a run for the Snappers.

Starter Corey Miller allowed 5 runs, 3 earned, over 6 1/3 innings of work to take his 3rd loss for the Lake Monsters on Tuesday. Catcher Tom Gavitt singled, doubled and scored twice, while third baseman Trace Loehr singled in 2 runs to put Vermont on the board in the top of the 3rd, and first baseman Chris Iriart and outfielders Skye Bolt and Seth Brown had a pair of hits apiece in the loss.

 

In Other News…

Rosters for the Arizona Fall League were announced on Tuesday, and six A’s prospects are set to participate. Third baseman Matt Chapman, shortstop Chad Pinder, outfielder Jaycob Brugman, LHP Sean Manaea and RHPs Brendan McCurry and Kris Hall will all be on the roster for the Mesa Solar Sox when they begin play in October.
