With two outs, two on and his team down by two runs in the bottom of the 7th, catcher Nick Rickles, getting a rare start at first base on Saturday, stroked a single to center field to bring in both runners and tie the game 4-4. Rickles also singled and scored a run in the 3rd, and the RockHounds plated the winning run in the 8th when second baseman Colin Walsh scored on designated hitter Chad Pinder’s sacrifice fly. Third baseman Ryon Healy had a pair of hits and a walk and drove in Rickles in the 3rd, while Matt Olson made a remarkable 9 putouts in right field. Starter Dillon Overton allowed 3 runs on 7 hits over 5 innings of work, while LHP Jeff Urlaub gave up 1 run in 2 innings of relief. RHP Ryan Doolittle struck out the side in the 8th to pick up his 4th win, and RHP Seth Frankoff got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 7th save. In other news, outfielder Chad Oberacker was activated from the disabled list, while third baseman Renato Nunez landed on the disabled list with a hamstring strain, and first baseman Anthony Aliotti was placed on the temporarily inactive list for the RockHounds.

LHP Sean Nolin returned from the disabled list to make the start for the Sounds and tossed 2 scoreless innings on Saturday. LHP Phil Coke followed by allowing 4 runs in 2 innings of relief to take the loss, and LHP Jim Fuller gave up 2 more runs in 2/3 of an inning in his first appearance since returning from the disabled list. Tyler Ladendorf joined Nashville on a rehab assignment and started the game at shortstop while hitting in the leadoff spot on Saturday. He went 2 for 5 and singled in the Sounds’ only run of the game in the 2nd, while catcher Bryan Anderson, first baseman Max Muncy and third baseman Brent Morel had a pair of hits apiece in the loss. Meanwhile, RHP Dan Otero and switch-pitcher Pat Venditte were both recalled by the A’s, while RHP Aaron Brooks was optioned to Nashville, and LHP Brad Mills was designated for assignment.

Starter Casey Meisner pitched 4 perfect innings on Saturday before allowing a leadoff home run in the 5th inning and then loading the bases before exiting the game. Two of those base runners eventually came around to score and Meisner ended up being charged with 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks over 4 innings of work to take the loss. Second baseman Trent Gilbert doubled and drove in Stockton’s only run of the game, while outfielder J.P. Sportman went 0 for 3 with a walk in his return from the disabled list, and catcher Jacob Nottingham, first baseman John Nogowski and designated hitter B.J. Boyd all doubled in the loss.

RHP Brett Graves had a shaky start on Saturday and ended up being charged with 6 runs on 9 hits over 4 innings of work to take his 6th loss for the Snappers. This year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, shortstop Mikey White, hit his 1st home run for the Snappers, a 2-run shot to tie the game in the bottom of the 2nd, while first baseman Max Kuhn hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd to briefly give Beloit the lead, and catcher Argenis Raga collected 3 hits in the loss.

Starter Corey Miller allowed 3 runs over 4 innings of work to take the loss for the Lake Monsters on Saturday. Center fielder Seth Brown singled and homered in the 9th, while right fielder Brett Siddall walked and homered in the 2nd, but it wasn’t enough as Staten Island snapped Vermont’s 3-game winning streak on Saturday.

Starter Boomer Biegalski, this year’s 14th-round draft pick for the A’s, allowed 2 runs in just 1 1/3 innings of work and left with the game a 2-2 tie on Saturday, while 18-year-old Venezuelan RHP Jesus Zambrano gave up 5 runs, 4 earned, in 3 innings of relief to take the loss for the A’s. Center fielder Rodolfo Penalo and designated hitter Miguel Guzman each had a pair of singles and a double and drove in a run, and Penalo also scored twice in the loss.
