A’s top prospect Matt Olson started off the season hot, hitting 6 home runs in 20 games in April. He cooled off considerably in May and June though, hitting just 1 home run in each month. But Olson’s been getting his power stroke back lately. He hit his second home run in Midland’s 4-game series with San Antonio on Sunday and also collected his 8th double of the month in the game. Second baseman Colin Walsh had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, while first baseman Rangel Ravelo had 2 hits and a walk and drove in the go-ahead run for the RockHounds. Starter Chris Jensen allowed 4 runs over 7 innings of work to earn his 6th win, while RHP Ryan Doolittle got the final six outs to post his 1st save for Midland.

A big 5-run 4th inning did in starter Nate Long on Sunday. Long ended up allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, on 5 hits and 3 walks over just 3 2/3 innings of work to take his 3rd loss for the Sounds. Catcher Carson Blair homered and doubled, while second baseman Joey Wendle tripled and doubled, and first baseman Nate Freiman slugged his 2nd home run of the season for the Sounds.

Third baseman Matt Chapman had another big night at the plate in the Ports’ loss on Sunday. Chapman hit his 21st home run and also collected his 20th and 21st doubles of the season. RHP Kyle Finnegan had a rough start for Stockton, allowing 6 runs, 5 earned, over just 3 2/3 innings of work to suffer his 7th loss. And Stockton’s 6 errors contributed to the Ports bullpen surrendering 12 more runs, 10 of them unearned, in Sunday’s loss.

Starter Daniel Gossett allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, over 5 innings of work, while RHP Koby Gauna tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and LHP Jose Torres gave up 1 run in the bottom of the 9th to take his 4th loss for the Snappers. Catcher Iolana Akau had 3 hits and drove in a run, while third baseman Joe Bennie also collected 3 hits, and outfielders James Harris and Justin Higley each singled and drove in a run in the loss.

This year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, center fielder Skye Bolt, slugged his 2nd home run of the season in the bottom of the 4th to briefly give the Lake Monsters the lead, while first baseman Chris Iriart singled, doubled and drove in a run for Vermont. The A’s 6th-round pick, RHP Bowdien Derby, allowed 1 run in 3 innings of work, while LHP Chris Kohler gave up 3 runs, 2 earned, over 5 innings of relief to take his 2nd loss for the Lake Monsters.

 

ARIZONA LEAGUE  (Rookie Short-Season)

Catcher Robert Mullen

(1 for 4 / 2 RBIs)

With two outs, two on and his team down by a run in the top of the 9th, catcher Robert Mullen singled in the tying and winning runs for the A’s on Sunday. Shortstop Edwin Diaz doubled in 2 runs to give the A’s an early lead in the 2nd, while third baseman Miguel Mercedes collected a pair of doubles in the win. Starter Angel Duno allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, over 5 innings of work, while LHP Jeff Urlaub gave up 1 run in 1 inning of relief, and RHP Armando Ruiz tossed 2 scoreless innings to earn the win for the A’s
