Reliever-turned-starter Joel Seddon turned in another strong outing for Stockton, allowing just 1 unearned run while striking out 5 over 6 innings of work to earn his 7th win on Wednesday. And Seddon has now delivered quality starts in 6 of his last 7 outings for Stockton. Third baseman Matt Chapman continued his power surge, collecting his 16th home run and his 16th double on Wednesday. Chapman and outfielder Tyler Marincov combined on back-to-back home runs to lead off the 4th inning, while first baseman John Nogowski had 2 hits and drove in a pair for the Ports. In other news, former Angels RHP Ryan Brasier, who missed all of last season due to Tommy John surgery, signed a minor league contract with the A’s and was placed on the Ports’ disabled list, while LHP Phil Coke was promoted to Nashville and LHP Chris Lamb was reassigned to Stockton from Midland.

With the RockHounds down by a run in the bottom of the 6th inning, designated hitter Rangel Ravelo hit his 1st home run since returning from wrist surgery to tie the game. San Antonio then scored a run in the top of the 7th to retake the lead. But with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th, Ravelo singled in a run to tie the game once again. Two more runs then came in to score later in the inning on a wild pitch and a throwing error to provide the margin of victory for Midland on Wednesday. Second baseman Colin Walsh singled in 2 runs in the 3rd, while shortstop Chad Pinder and outfielder Chad Oberacker had a pair of hits apiece for the Hounds. Starter Tim Atherton allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 6 innings of work in his return from the disabled list, while RHP Bobby Wahl picked up the win despite giving up a run in the top of the 7th. LHP Omar Duran struck out a pair in a scoreless 8th, and RHP Ryan Dull got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 10th save. Meanwhile, outfielder Josh Whitaker was placed on the disabled list with a left ankle sprain and LHP Chris Lamb was reassigned to Stockton.

The Snappers were shut out on just 1 hit on Wednesday. First baseman Sandber Pimentel collected the sole single and also walked, while shortstop Yairo Munoz walked twice and stole a base. Starter Heath Fillmyer allowed 1 run over 5 innings of work to suffer his 9th loss, while RHP Carlos Navas and Koby Gauna combined on 3 scoreless innings of relief for the Snappers.

With two outs, the bases loaded and Vermont down by 3 runs in the top of the 5th, first baseman Chris Iriart doubled to clear the bases and tie the game for the Lake Monsters. Outfielder Steven Pallares collected 3 hits in the game, while shortstop Richie Martin and third baseman Mikey White had a pair of hits apiece for Vermont. Starter Dustin Driver gave up 4 runs in just 3 innings of work, while this year’s 5th-round pick for the A’s, LHP Kevin Duchene, allowed 1 run in 3 innings of relief, and 31st-round RHP John Gorman gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss for the Lake Monsters.

 

ARIZONA LEAGUE  (Rookie Short-Season)

A big 6-run 9th inning for the Rangers undermined the A’s efforts on Wednesday. Starter Xavier Altamirano tossed 3 shutout innings to start things off on the right foot, while RHP Jesus Zambrano gave up 1 run over 4 2/3 innings of work and left with the game a 1-1 tie. Right fielder Jhonny Rodriguez then doubled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the 8th to give the A’s a 2-run lead. RHP Yordy Alejo loaded the bases in the top of the 9th before exiting with no outs. All runners would eventually come around to score and Alejo would take loss, and RHP Armando Ruiz would give up 3 more runs of his own in the 9th. Left fielder Brett Siddall singled, doubled, stole a base and scored twice in the loss.
