This year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, infielder Mikey White, continued his hot hitting for Vermont on Wednesday. The 21-year-old went 3 for 3 and hit his 2nd home run, a 3 run-shot, in the 2nd inning while making his third start at third base for the Lake Monsters. 10th-round outfielder Steven Pallares had a pair of hits, including his 1st home run, and also drove in 3. 25th-round LHP Evan Manarino was solid in his first start, allowing just 2 hits over 3 scoreless innings, while 24th-round RHP Heath Bowers gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, in 2 innings of relief to pick up his 1st win for Vermont.

Midland managed just 2 runs on 4 hits on Wednesday, but it was still enough to push the game into extra innings, where the RockHounds lost it in the 10th. First baseman Renato Nunez hit his 12th home run to put the Hounds on the board in the 7th. Designated hitter Chad Pinder then singled in outfielder Matt Angle, who’d doubled, to tie the game in the top of the 9th. Top prospect Matt Olson went 0 for 4 as he made his first career start at third base. Starter Dillon Overton allowed 2 runs in 5 innings of work, while RHPs Kris Hall and Ticker Healy both tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief. But RHP Ryan Dull, who had allowed just 1 run over 37 2/3 innings this season, gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to take his 1st loss for Midland. Meanwhile, RHP Parker Frazier was reassigned from the Sounds to the RockHounds, while RHP Bobby Wahl was activated from the disabled list for the Hounds, and RHP Tim Atherton and infielder Ryon Healy were both placed on the DL for Midland.

Designated hitter Franklin Barreto continued his recent hot streak for Stockton, hitting his 8th home run in the bottom of the 1st to briefly give the Ports the lead. He also singled in the 4th for Stockton. Starter Raul Alcantara gave up 1 run in 2 1/3 innings of work but exited after taking a hard-hit line drive off his left wrist/forearm area in the top of the 3rd. RHP Trevor Bayless came in on short notice and ended up allowing 3 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief to take his 2nd loss for Stockton.

RHP Kevin Johnson allowed 3 unearned runs, with the help of a throwing error by third baseman Jose Brizuela, over 4 innings of work to take his 5th loss on Wednesday, while LHP Jerad Grundy gave up 5 more runs in just 1 inning of relief for the Snappers. Catcher Iolana Akau doubled in the Snappers’ only run with two outs in the bottom of the 9th, while outfielder Shawn Duinkerk and designated hitter Max Kuhn both doubled for Beloit, and first baseman Sandber Pimentel had a pair of hits in the loss.

RHP Branden Kelliher had another shaky outing on Wednesday, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks over 2 1/3 innings of work, while 20-year-old Venezuelan LHP Ivan Andueza gave up 3 runs while throwing 2 1/3 frames to take the loss. 29th-round RHP Armando Ruiz allowed 4 runs, 2 earned, over 1 1/3 innings, and RHP Jesus Rivas gave up 3 runs, 2 earned, in just 1 inning of relief for the A’s. Right fielder Robert Martinez singled, walked, homered and drove in a pair of runs, while left fielder Brett Siddall had 2 doubles and drove in a run, and center fielder Rodolfo Penalo and third baseman Miguel Mercedes both drove in a pair in the loss.
