After spending most of his career pitching out of the bullpen, 27-year-old veteran minor league RHP Jonathan Joseph has turned into a solid starter for the RockHounds. And Joseph turned in his best start yet on Monday, allowing just 1 run while striking out 6 to earn his 5th win for Midland. RHP Ryan Dull got the final two outs in the 9th to notch his 7th save. Shortstop Chad Pinder walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game and then hit a 2-run homer in the 5th, while second baseman Colin Walsh slugged a 2-run shot in the 4th to break the tie and doubled but was left stranded in the 6th, and catcher Nick Rickles, outfielder Josh Whitaker and third baseman Renato Nunez had a pair of hits apiece for the Hounds.

LHP Brad Mills had his second straight rough start for the Sounds on Monday, allowing 6 runs over 6 innings of work to suffer his 9th loss, while RHP Dan Otero tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief for Nashville. Shortstop Ryan Roberts doubled in a run in the 1st to give the Sounds an early lead, while second baseman Joey Wendle singled and doubled in a run in the top of the 9th, and first baseman Nate Freiman went 2 for 2 with a walk and drove in a run in his return to the lineup after sitting out five days while he was designated for assignment. Meanwhile, the A’s acquired RHP Aaron Kurcz from Atlanta and assigned him to Nashville, while LHP Ryan Verdugo was dealt to the Angels, and RHP Chris Bassitt was optioned back to Nashville.

Shortstop Franklin Barreto continued his hot hitting of late, collecting 3 hits, including a double, and ended up scoring Stockton’s only run on Monday. And the 19-year-old has now gone 8 for 13 over his last 4 games for the Ports. Outfielder Tyler Marincov singled and doubled in the loss. Starter Matt Stalcup allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, over 4 1/3 innings to take his 1st loss, while RHP Lou Trivino gave up 2 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief, and LHP Phil Coke tossed a scoreless 8th for Stockton.

RHP Junior Mendez had a shaky start for the Snappers on Monday, allowing 4 runs over 5 innings of work. But after Beloit came back to take the lead, RHP Dominique Vattuone gave up 3 runs in just 1/3 of an inning in relief to take his 2nd loss for the Snappers. Shortstop Yairo Munoz doubled in the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the 6th, while outfielder James Harris tripled in his team’s first run in the 3rd, and catcher Iolana Akau and third baseman Jose Brizuela had a pair of hits apiece for the Snappers.

Vermont was shut out on just 5 hits on Monday. This year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, Mikey White, made the start at second base and went 1 for 4 with the team’s only extra-base hit, a double, while 26th-round catcher Jordan Devencenzi singled and walked in the loss. RHP Jon Massad had a rocky start, allowing 5 runs over 5 innings of work to take his 2nd loss for the Lake Monsters.
