In one of his best starts so far this season for the Snappers, last year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Daniel Gossett, allowed just 1 run over 7 innings of work to earn his 3rd win on Tuesday. Shortstop Yairo Munoz doubled in 2 runs in the top of the 2nd and singled and scored in the 6th, while outfielder James Harris singled, doubled and walked twice. Third baseman Jose Brizuela singled, tripled and scored, and outfielder Justin Higley and designated hitter Sandber Pimentel had a pair of hits apiece for the Snappers.

LHP Brad Mills had a shaky start for the Sounds on Tuesday, giving up 6 runs in the first 3 innings, but he settled down to toss 4 scoreless frames after that and ended up allowing 6 runs on 8 hits over 7 innings of work to take his 8th loss for Nashville. Third baseman Ryan Roberts doubled and scored the Sounds’ first run in the 1st inning and singled in the Sounds’ second run in the 3rd, while designated hitter Dayan Viciedo singled in Roberts in the 1st. Meanwhile, Nashville RHP Chris Bassitt was recalled by the A’s and infielder Max Muncy was optioned back to the Sounds on Tuesday.

Starter Dylan Covey allowed 3 runs on 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings of work, while RHP Sam Roberts gave up 1 run in 1 2/3 innings of relief to take the loss on Tuesday. LHP Phil Coke surrendered 2 runs on 4 hits in just 1 inning in his second appearance for the Ports. Third baseman Matt Chapman hit a 2-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th, and he now leads all A’s minor leaguers in home runs with 12. Second baseman Branden Cogswell belted his 3rd home run in the 5th, while first baseman John Nogowski had a pair of hits for the Ports.

In the completion of Monday’s suspended game, the Snappers ended up losing in 12 innings on Tuesday. On Monday, starter Heath Fillmyer allowed 1 run in 3 innings of work before the game was suspended due to rain. Beloit managed just 4 hits in the game, with outfielder Justin Higley singling home third baseman Jose Brizuela, who’d doubled, to tie the game in the top of the 7th. RHP Carlos Navas picked up for Fillmyer on Tuesday and tossed 2 shutout innings, while RHP Koby Gauna allowed just 1 hit in 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to keep the game tied through 9 innings. But RHP Dominique Vattuone loaded the bases in the bottom of the 12th before LHP Jerad Grundy gave up an RBI single to give Quad Cities the walk-off win on Tuesday.

This year’s 7th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Kyle Friedrichs, started the game off by tossing 2 scoreless innings on Tuesday, while 9th-round LHP Jared Lyons gave up 4 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief, and LHP Derek Beasley allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, over 2 2/3 innings to put Vermont down by 4 runs after 6 innings. But LHP Tyler Painton pitched 3 perfect innings to give the Lake Monsters the chance to come back and tie the game in the bottom of the 9th. Right fielder Ryan Howell delivered the big blow, a 2-run homer, in the 9th, but RHP Cody Kurz gave up the winning run in the top of the 10th to take his 2nd loss. Third baseman Gabriel Santana collected 3 hits and scored twice in the game, while center fielder Steven Pallares and left fielder Vicmal De La Cruz had a pair of hits apiece for the Lake Monsters. Meanwhile, eight recent draftees were added to Vermont’s roster on Tuesday. LHP Kevin Duchene (5th), RHP Bowdien Derby (6th), catcher Nick Collins (8th), first baseman Seth Brown (19th), RHP James Naile (20th), LHP Andrew Tomasovich (21st), catcher Jordan Devencenzi (26th) and RHP John Gorman (31st) all joined the Lake Monsters, while RHPs Jordan Schwartz, Tyler Willman and Jesus Rivas, LHP Victor Veliz and outfielder Robert Martinez were reassigned to the AZL A’s.

21-year-old Venezuelan RHP Angel Duno turned in his best start so far this season, allowing just 1 run over 5 innings of work to earn his 1st win on Tuesday. RHP Emerson Dulo tossed 2 scoreless innings, while 16th-round RHP Dustin Hurlbutt gave up 1 run in 1 inning of relief, and converted catcher Ryan Gorton got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 1st save. 13th-round outfielder Brett Siddall tripled in a pair of runs, while third baseman Miguel Mercedes had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and first baseman Rangel Ravelo doubled in a run for the A’s.
In Other News…
The A’s have agreed to terms with shortstop Richie Martin, the team’s 1st-round draft pick from this year’s amateur draft. The 20-year-old junior batted .291 with a .399 on-base percentage in 70 games for the University of Florida this season and was the Gators team leader in walks and stolen bases. Look for Martin to join Vermont soon. And with Martin now in the fold, the A’s have now come to terms with their top 13 picks and 31 of their 40 picks from this year’s draft.
