LHP Chris Kohler, the A’s 3rd-round supplemental pick in 2013, was impressive in his second start for the Lake Monsters on Monday, allowing just 2 hits while walking 1 and striking out 7 over 5 innings of work to earn his 1st win in the second game of Monday’s doubleheader at Vermont. The 20-year-old struck out the side in both the 2nd and 3rd innings and, after being sidelined due to injuries last season, Kohler has now notched 10 strikeouts in his first 10 innings this year. RHP Corey Miller tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, while LHP Mike Fagan got the final two outs for his 1st save. Catcher Seong-min Kim had 2 hits, including a home run in the 5th inning to provide the only run of the game, while this year’s 10th-round pick, outfielder Steven Pallares, had a pair of hits for Vermont.

Starter Zach Neal allowed 2 runs while striking out 6 to earn his team-leading 6th win on Monday. Neal was also credited with a complete game in a contest that was called in the 5th inning due to rain. Right fielder Jason Pridie singled, tripled and scored twice, while left fielder Jake Smolinski doubled in Pridie to put the Sounds on the board in the 2nd and drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly in the 4th, and third baseman Ryan Roberts singled, doubled and scored the tying run in the 4th for the Sounds.

Monday’s game was suspended due to rain with one out in the top of the 4th and the Snappers down 1-0. Starter Heath Fillmyer allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 3 innings of work, while shortstop Yairo Munoz and designated hitter Max Kuhn both singled for the Snappers.

The A’s 7th-round pick in 2013, RHP Dustin Driver, held the opposition hitless over the first 4 innings on Monday, but he gave up 4 runs, 3 earned, in the top of the 5th and ended up allowing 5 hits and striking out 5 in 5 complete frames to take his 1st loss for the Lake Monsters in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader. This year’s 12th-round draft pick for the A’s, first baseman Chris Iriart, hit a 2-run homer in the 1st to give Vermont an early lead, while 2nd-round shortstop Mikey White and 4th-round center fielder Skye Bolt both singled and doubled in the loss.

The A’s 6th-round pick in this year’s draft, RHP Bowdien Derby, allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 1 2/3 innings to take the loss on Monday. 18-year-old Venezuelan RHP Jesus Zambrano gave up 5 runs on 10 hits over 3 1/3 innings, while 20th-round RHP James Naile pitched 1 1/3 perfect frames in relief. 21st-round LHP Andrew Tomasovich allowed 1 run in 1 2/3 innings, and 29th-round RHP Armando Ruiz tossed 1 scoreless inning to close things out in the loss. The A’s managed just 4 hits on Monday, with first baseman Miguel Mercedes singling in the A’s only run in the 9th.
