In the completion of a game suspended on April 27 due to rain, the Sounds were undone by a 4-run 7th inning and ended up suffering a 4-3 loss on Monday. RHP Arnold Leon started the game in April by throwing 3 2/3 shutout innings and picked up right where he left off on Monday by tossing 3 more scoreless innings before loading the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 7th. RHP Dan Otero was then summoned to make his debut for the Sounds and promptly surrendered three straight singles to bring home 4 runs. Leon ended up being charged with 3 runs in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss, while Otero was charged with 1 run on 5 hits in just 1 1/3 innings of relief. Outfielder Kent Matthes collected 3 hits, including a double, and drove in 2 of Nashville’s 3 runs, while second baseman Joey Wendle drove in the Sounds’ only other run, and shortstop Niuman Romero and outfielder Jason Pridie had a pair of hits apiece in the loss.

(Triple / Run)

On Monday in Stockton, RHP Raul Alcantara returned to the mound for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery a little over a year ago. The 22-year-old got things off to a good start by tossing a scoreless 1st inning, but a 4-run 2nd inning shortened his night, and Alcantara ended up allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while walking none and striking out 1 on 48 pitches, 37 of them strikes, over 2 1/3 innings of work. The Ports ended up coming back to tie the game, but RHP Lou Trivino gave up 2 runs in 4 innings of relief to take the loss. Outfielder J.P. Sportman tripled then came in to score the tying run in 6th, while second baseman Branden Cogswell doubled, walked and scored a run in the loss.

Farmhand Of The Game:

Outfielder Justin Higley

(Double / RBI)

Starter Dustin Driver allowed 3 runs, 1 earned, over just 2 innings of work to take the loss while still seeming to battle a blister on his pitching hand that landed him on the disabled list late last month. Outfielder Justin Higley, who recently returned from Stockton, doubled in the Snappers’ first run of the game in the 3rd inning, while designated hitter Andy Paz singled, walked and scored a run in the loss. Meanwhile, second baseman Trent Gilbert was named the Midwest League offensive player of the week on Monday. The 22-year-old infielder went 12 for 27 with 5 doubles, 1 home run and 9 RBIs while posting a .444/.464/.741 slash line last week.
