LHP Barry Zito turned in his third straight scoreless start for the Sounds, tossing 7 shutout innings to run his scoreless inning streak to 21 while earning his 4th win in front of a record-setting crowd of 11,482 at First Tennessee Park in Nashville on Friday. RHP Brock Huntzinger tossed a scoreless 8th, and RHP R.J. Alvarez got the final three outs in the 9th for his 4th save. The Sounds won on just 4 hits on Friday. Second baseman Joey Wendle had a pair of doubles and scored the Sounds’ only run in the 4th. In other news, Oakland optioned RHP Dan Otero to Nashville and Sounds switch-pitcher Pat Venditte was called up by the A’s.

Designated hitter Carson Blair homered for the second time in as many days to put the RockHounds on the board in the 2nd inning, and outfielder Josh Whitaker doubled in a run to tie the game in 3rd, but that was all the scoring the Hounds would do on Friday. Starter Jake Sanchez allowed 6 runs, 5 of them unearned, over 5 innings of work. And Renato Nunez, getting the start at first base, made a key fielding error that led to 4 unearned runs in the 5th. RHPs Ryan Doolittle and Andres Avila combined to throw 3 scoreless innings in relief for the RockHounds.

The Ports put 10 runs on the board to post their fourth straight win on Friday. Third baseman Matt Chapman continued his hot hitting, collecting his 1st triple along with his 7th home run on the season, which was also his 4th in his last 5 games, while also driving in a pair of runs for the Ports. Designated hitter J.P. Sportman had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in 2 runs, while second baseman Branden Cogswell doubled and drove in 3, and outfielder Brett Vertigan and first baseman John Nogowski had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. Starter Kyle Finnegan allowed 4 runs over 5 innings of work and picked up his 3rd win, while RHP Brendan McCurry got the final four outs to earn his 8th save.

The Snappers were shut out on just 5 hits on Friday. Designated hitter Jose Brizuela had a pair of singles, while catcher Jose Chavez and third baseman Edwin Diaz both doubled for Beloit. Starter Junior Mendez allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work to take his 3rd loss for the Snappers, while relievers Joey Wagman and Jose Torres combined to throw 3 scoreless innings in the loss.
