Monday, May 11th: Ryon Healy Helps Hounds Win in a Walk-Off in 12th while R.J. Alvarez Takes Loss in 10th for Sounds

With a man on, two outs and the game tied in the bottom of the 12th inning, third baseman Ryon Healy doubled in the winning run to give the RockHounds the walk-off win in Midland on Monday. Healy also had 2 singles in the game, while shortstop Chad Pinder singled, doubled, walked 3 times and scored the tying run in the 6th and the winning run in the 12th. Outfielder Matt Angle singled in the tying run in the 6th, and catcher Bruce Maxwell, outfielder Josh Whitaker and second baseman Colin Walsh had a pair of hits apiece for the Hounds. Starter Chris Jensen allowed 2 runs over 5 innings of work but left with his team down by a run. Midland managed to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th. RHPs Kris Hall, Ryan Doolittle and Ryan Dull each tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Tucker Healy picked up the win after striking out the side in the top of the 12th for the RockHounds.

Well, as it turns out, bullpen woes aren’t just for the big club anymore! With two outs and the game tied in the top of the 10th, RHP R.J. Alvarez ended up being charged with 6 runs before the inning was through and took his 1st loss for the Sounds. Starter Kendall Graveman allowed 2 runs over 5 1/3 innings and left with his team down 2-0. LHP Jim Fuller threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to keep things close before Nashville scored two runs in the 8th to tie the game. Left fielder Jason Pridie doubled in center fielder Craig Gentry, who’d walked to lead off the inning, then designated hitter Nate Freiman singled in Pride to tie the game at two all. Alvarez then tossed a scoreless 9th and got two outs in the 10th before surrendering 6 runs and taking the loss for the Sounds.

Starter Daniel Gossett allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, over 4 1/3 innings to take his 4th loss for the Snappers, while RHP Carlos Navas gave up 1 run in 1 2/3 innings, and LHP Mike Fagan surrendered another 3 runs in just 1 inning of relief. The Snappers were shut out on just 2 hits on Monday. Outfielder Max Kuhn reached base twice, on a single and a walk, while second baseman Trent Gilbert had the team’s only other hit in the loss.

 

In other news, ailing A’s pitcher Jarrod Parker got some cheering up by meeting with musician Jack White at Third Man Records in Nashville on Monday…
