The Sounds were held to just 4 hits on Thursday. Two of those hits came courtesy of second baseman Joey Wendle, who doubled and homered to account for Nashville’s only run of the game. Wendle now leads all A’s minor leaguers with a total of 16 extra-base hits. Shortstop Andy Parrino singled and walked, while center fielder Craig Gentry went 0 for 4 in his first appearance for the Sounds. Starter Brad Mills allowed just 2 runs and struck out 5 over 6 1/3 innings but still ended up taking his 4th loss, while RHP Brock Huntzinger gave up 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief, and LHP Jim Fuller tossed a scoreless 9th for Nashville. Meanwhile, Sounds RHP Fernando Rodriguez was called up by the A’s and RHP Chad Smith was designated for assignment.

Starter Nate Long allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work to take his 2nd loss on Thursday, while RHP Bobby Wahl tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief for the RockHounds. Left fielder Matt Angle doubled, walked and stole a base, while right fielder Jaycob Brugman singled in the RockHounds’ only run in the 8th, and first baseman Matt Olson singled, walked twice and scored in the loss.

RHP Dylan Covey had a solid start for Stockton on Thursday, allowing just 2 runs, on a 2-run homer in the 3rd, and striking out 4 over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up taking his 3rd loss for the Ports. RHP Brendan McCurry pitched 2 perfect innings in relief, while RHP Corey Walter tossed a scoreless 9th for Stockton. The Ports were held to just 3 hits in the shutout. First baseman John Nogowski had a pair of singles, while outfielder Justin Higley doubled, and third baseman Matt Chapman struck out in all 3 plate appearances in his season debut for the Ports. Meanwhile, outfielder J.P. Sportman was placed on the disabled list for Stockton.

RHP Jordan Schwartz had another rough start for the Snappers on Thursday, giving up 5 runs, 4 earned, over just 3 2/3 innings to take his 4th loss. RHP Corey Miller and LHPs Mike Fagan and Jerad Grundy each allowed 2 runs in relief. Shortstop Yairo Munoz singled in the Snappers’ only run in the 2nd, while outfielder Shawn Duinkerk singled, walked and scored in the loss.
