With two on, two outs and Stockton up by a run in the bottom of the 5th, right fielder Tyler Marincov smacked a 3-run homer to give the Ports a 4-run lead. Marincov also had a pair of singles in the game and has now gone 8 for 12 over his last three games to raise his average to a healthy .333. Center fielder B.J. Boyd and first John Nogowski both singled, doubled and drove in a run, while third baseman Jose Brizuela doubled in a run and walked, and left fielder Coco Crisp went 1 for 3 with a walk and drove in a run in his first rehab appearance for the Ports. Starter Kyle Finnegan had a solid outing for Stockton on Sunday, allowing 2 runs over 5 1/3 innings, and he left the game with a 3-run lead. But RHP Joey Wagman gave up 6 runs in 3 innings of relief and ended up taking the loss in the first appearance for the Ports. Meanwhile, Stockton’s most dependable bullpen arm, RHP Andres Avila, was reassigned to the RockHounds.

In his first start for the Sounds on Sunday, rehabbing RHP Jarrod Parker tossed 4 scoreless innings before giving up a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 5th. Parker ended up allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4 over 4 1/3 innings of work and left the game with a 1-run lead. LHP Ryan Verdugo followed Parker by giving up a 2-run homer in the same inning and ended up taking his 3rd loss for the Sounds. Second baseman Joey Wendle singled, doubled, tripled and drove in a run, while third baseman Alden Carrithers collected 3 hits and scored 3 times. Center fielder Jason Pridie singled and doubled in a pair of runs, and left fielder Alex Hassan went 0 for 3 with a walk in his Nashville debut. In other news, Sounds’ saves leader Chad Smith was recalled by the A’s and RHP Ryan Cook was returned to Nashville.

In his first start for Midland since being promoted from Stockton, RHP Tim Atherton allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 2 over 6 innings of work to take the loss on Sunday. RHP Tucker Healy gave up 3 runs, his first of the season, in 1 1/3 innings of relief for the RockHounds. Midland managed just 5 hits on the night. Outfielder Matt Angle singled twice and stole a base, while third baseman Ryon Healy doubled, and outfielder Chad Oberacker and designated hitter Josh Whitaker both singled for the RockHounds. It was the fourth straight loss for the Hounds, who’ve now failed to score in their last 18 innings.

 

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (Class-A)

Second Baseman Trent Gilbert

Second baseman Trent Gilbert had 3 hits and drove in the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the 9th for the Snappers before Kane County came back to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th and win the game in a walk-off in the bottom of the 10th on Sunday. First baseman Max Kuhn and designated hitter Sandber Pimentel both singled and doubled, while outfielder Joe Bennie doubled, walked twice and drove in a run for Beloit. LHP Jerad Grundy got the last-minute start and tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings before giving way to RHP Kevin Johnson, who allowed 2 runs in 3 innings of work. LHP Jose Torres gave up the tying run in the 9th, while RHP Carlos Navas surrendered the winning run in the 10th to take his 1st loss for the Snappers.
