With scheduled starter Brad Mills ill with a bug that’s been sweeping through the Sounds clubhouse, Pat Venditte was called upon to make the emergency start for Nashville on Tuesday. And, fortunately, the switch-pitcher fared well in his first start of the season, tossing 4 shutout innings before giving up a home run to the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the 5th. Venditte ended up allowing 1 run on 4 hits in 4 innings of work, while RHP R.J. Alvarez struck out 2 in 2 scoreless innings to earn the win in his Nashville debut. RHP Fernando Rodriguez contributed 2 shutout innings of his own, and RHP Chad Smith got the final three outs to earn his 2nd save for the Sounds. Second baseman Joey Wendle walked, stole a base and doubled in Nashville’s first run of the game, while outfielder Kent Matthes drove in the team’s only other run of the day, and shortstop Andy Parrino and first baseman Anthony Aliotti had a pair of hits apiece for the Sounds.

RHP Joel Seddon then came on to strike out 6 in 3 perfect innings of relief, and RHP Andres Avila tossed a scoreless 9th to earn his 2nd save for Stockton. Center fielder J.P. Sportman had 3 hits, stole a base and drove in a run, while right fielder Justin Higley singled, doubled and scored, and designated hitter Tyler Marincov doubled, walked and drove in a run for the Ports.
