RockHounds starter Shawn Haviland delivered an impressive outing on Monday to help Midland clinch a Texas League playoff berth in the Hounds’ last home game of the regular season. Haviland allowed just 3 hits over 8 shutout innings to earn his 7th win this season. And Midland will now face Frisco in a first-round playoff series next week in the team’s first playoff appearance since 2010. Shortstop Dusty Coleman doubled in 2 runs and scored twice, while second baseman Conner Crumbliss had 2 hits and drove in a pair. Outfielder Jeremy Barfield singled, doubled, walked and scored a run, and designated hitter D’Arby Myers had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the RockHounds.

The River Cats made things easy for themselves by putting up 20 runs on Monday. They also made things easy for starter Zach Neal, who cruised through 7 innings allowing just 1 unearned run while striking out 6 to earn his 7th win for Sacramento. Second baseman Jose Martinez had 3 hits, including his 7th home run, and drove in 3, while designated hitter Daric Barton singled, doubled and drove in 4. Outfielder Nick Buss and third baseman Alden Carrithers collected 4 hits apiece, and catcher Bryan Anderson singled, doubled and drove in a run in his first game for the River Cats. Meanwhile, catcher Luis Martinez was placed on the temporarily inactive list for Sacramento.

Starter Joey Wagman was solid over 4 scoreless innings on Monday, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 7 for the Snappers. But RHP Lee Sosa surrendered 3 runs, 1 earned, in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Tyler Vail gave up 4 runs, 1 earned, over 1 2/3 innings to take his 6th loss. Outfielder Ryan Mathews continued his hot hitting, collecting a home run and a double, while catcher Josh Ludy also homered, and shortstop Branden Cogswell went 0 for 4 and committed 3 errors in the loss.

This year’s 10th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Corey Miller, turned in a strong start for the Lake Monsters on Monday, allowing 1 run on just 3 hits over 5 innings of work to earn his 1st win for Vermont. Right fielder Scott Masik singled, tripled and drove in 2 runs, while catcher Seong-min Kim had 2 hits and drove in a pair. Left fielder Ben McQuown collected 3 hits and scored a run, and second baseman Trent Gilbert had 2 doubles and scored 3 times for the Lake Monsters.

The AZL A’s were shut out on 7 hits on Monday night. Catcher Luke Montz reached base 3 times, on a single and 2 walks, while shortstop Jesus Lopez had a pair of hits for the A’s. Starter Branden Kelliher allowed 3 unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings of work to take his 4th loss, while RHP Travis Pitcher gave up 3 runs over 2 1/3 innings, and RHP Heath Fillmyer pitched 2 perfect innings in relief for the A’s.
