One of the best stories in the A’s system in the second half of the season has to be the return of last year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, LHP Dillon Overton, to the mound 12 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery. On Sunday, Overton allowed just 1 baserunner while striking out 5 over 3 scoreless innings for the Lake Monsters. Since returning to action, Overton has struck out 42 and walked just 4 over 31 innings while putting up a 1.45 ERA, and has now allowed just 1 run and struck out 11 over 9 innings of work since joining Vermont. After Overton exited Sunday’s game, this year’s 3rd-round draft pick, RHP Brett Graves, allowed 5 runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief to take the loss. Designated hitter Max Kuhn tripled, doubled and scored, while shortstop Yairo Munoz and outfielder Ben McQuown both singled, stole a base and scored a run for the Lake Monsters.
