Center fielder J.P. Sportman continued his hot hitting on Monday, collecting 3 hits, including a home run, while driving in a pair of runs and scoring twice. And this year’s 27th-round draft pick for the A’s is now hitting an even .500 in the month of August, going 19 for 38. Left fielder Dayton Alexander singled and doubled in the winning run in the 6th, while shortstop Yairo Munoz had a pair of hits, stole a base and drove in a run for Vermont. Starter Cristhian Perez allowed 2 runs in 5 innings of work to earn his 2nd win for the Lake Monsters.

After the River Cats had scored 15 runs on Sunday, Sacramento was the victim of a 17-run outburst for Reno on Monday night. In his second rehab game for the River Cats, Kyle Blanks went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk while playing first base and batting third for Sacramento. Second baseman Jose Martinez had 3 hits, while Colin Walsh, who took over for Martinez at second, drove in 2 runs, and outfielder Billy Burns and first baseman Anthony Aliotti had a pair of hits apiece. Starter Deck McGuire allowed 12 runs in 4 innings of work to take his 2nd loss, while second baseman Colin Walsh gave up 2 runs in 1 inning of relief, and infielder Alden Carrithers tossed 1 scoreless inning for Sacramento in the loss.

Starter Victor Veliz tossed 4 shutout frames before giving way to LHP Kevin Ferreras, who threw 3 scoreless innings to earn his 2nd win on Monday. RHP Dawson Brown allowed 1 run in 1 inning of relief, while RHP Jesus Rivas got the final three outs for his 6th save. Outfielder Robert Martinez walked and doubled in a run, while second baseman Jesus Lopez singled, doubled and scored. The A’s stole 5 bases in the game, one apiece by Martinez and Lopez while outfielder Rodolfo Penalo swiped 3 on the night.
