The Ports once again upheld their reputation for hitting home runs by slugging 4 round-trippers on Sunday night. Outfielder Jaycob Brugman belted 2 home runs to give him a total of 5 over Stockton’s last 5 games. Catcher Beau Taylor homered for the third straight night, while third baseman Renato Nunez hit his 29th home run in the 3rd inning to give Stockton the lead, and shortstop Daniel Robertson singled, doubled and walked to extend his hitting streak to 16 games and raise his batting average to .307. RHP Tim Alderson turned in his fourth straight quality start for Stockton, allowing just 2 runs while striking out 6 over 7 innings of work to earn his 3rd win for the Ports.

Sacramento walked away with the win in a slugfest in Reno on Sunday night. First baseman Anthony Aliotti had 3 hits, including a home run, and drove in a pair, while third baseman Jose Martinez also homered, and outfielder Shane Peterson had 2 hits, drove in 2 runs and scored 3 times for Sacramento. RHP Arnold Leon had a rough start for the River Cats, allowing 8 runs on 11 hits over just 2 1/3 innings of work, but RHP Seth Frankoff gave up 1 run in 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up his 1st win for Sacramento.

RHP Murphy Smith made the spot start for RHP Sean Murphy, who was scratched with a sore elbow, and allowed 5 runs over 3 1/3 innings of work to take the loss on Sunday. RHP Marcus Walden surrendered another 4 runs in just 1 2/3 innings, while LHP Omar Duran struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings of relief for the RockHounds. Midland managed just 6 hits in the game. Outfielder D’Arby Myers doubled for the team’s only extra-base hit, while outfielder Chad Oberacker drove in the RockHounds’ only run of the game.

After a pair of solid outings, RHP Joey Wagman struggled in his third start for the Snappers on Sunday, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits over just 2 2/3 innings to take his 1st loss, while RHP Hunter Adkins came out of the bullpen to toss 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief for Beloit. Meanwhile, shortstop Melvin Mercedes hit his 1st home run of the season to provide the only run of the game for the Snappers.

Starter Jose Torres had a shaky outing for the Lake Monsters, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, over 4 innings of work to take his 6th loss on Sunday. Outfielder Brett Vertigan had a pair of extra-base hits, a triple and a double, and scored a run, while shortstop Yairo Munoz homered, designated hitter J.P. Sportman doubled, and third baseman Jose Brizuela drove in a run for the Lake Monsters.

 

ARIZONA LEAGUE  (Rookie Short-Season)

Rehabbing RHP Tanner Peters allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in just 1 2/3 innings of work, while RHP Jesus Zambrano gave up 3 runs over 5 2/3 innings and this year’s 5th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Heath Fillmyer, tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn his first pro win for the A’s. Outfielder Vicmal De La Cruz collected 3 hits, including a double, and scored twice, while outfielder Jonesy Zarraga singled, doubled and drove in 2 runs, and designated hitter Luke Montz had 2 hits and drove in a pair of runs in his first game back in action in Arizona in over 7 weeks.
