Outfielder Kent Matthes continued his hot hitting for Midland on Monday, homering for the third straight day while also adding a single and a double and driving in 3 runs for the RockHounds. Shortstop Dusty Coleman doubled in 2 runs, while catcher Bruce Maxwell had 2 hits and drove in the tying run, and second baseman Hiro Nakajima had 2 hits and drove in a pair, including the winning run for the RockHounds. Starter Shawn Haviland was a little shaky, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits over 4 1/3 innings of work, while RHP Deryk Hooker picked up the win with 3 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Jose Flores got the final three outs for his 5th save. Meanwhile, with Craig Gentry landing on the disabled list for the A’s, Midland outfielder Billy Burns was called up to take his place and went 0 for 1 in his first major league appearance on Monday. Outfielder Chad Oberacker, who was on the disabled for Stockton, was activated and reassigned to the RockHounds.

RHP Matt Buschmann turned in a strong start for Sacramento, allowing 2 runs on just 5 hits while walking none and striking out 8 over 8 innings of work and left the game with the lead on Monday. LHP Chris Lamb came in for the save but ended up allowing 2 runs in the 9th to take the loss in his first appearance for Sacramento. Third baseman Alden Carrithers had 3 hits, while shortstop Andy Parrino and second baseman Jake Elmore each singled and doubled in the loss. Meanwhile, outfielder Josh Whitaker was placed on the disabled list and outfielder Kenny Wilson was designated for assignment in order to make room on the A’s 40-man roster for Billy Burns.

RHP Josh Bowman had a solid start for Stockton, allowing just 1 run while striking out 6 over 6 innings of work and left the game with a 4-run lead on Monday. RHP Kris Hall came in to close things out but ended up allowing a grand slam and a solo shot in the top of the 9th. Designated hitter Matt Olson hit his 30th home run in the bottom of the 9th to tie things back up and send the game to extra innings. And after going 0 for 4 earlier in the game, outfielder Zeke DeVoss singled in the winning run on an infield hit in the bottom on the 10th. RHP Austin House picked up the win after tossing a scoreless top of the 10th. Catcher Beau Taylor singled, doubled, homered and walked twice, while outfielder Bobby Crocker hit his 8th home run, and shortstop Daniel Robertson and first baseman Ryon Healy had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. Meanwhile, Stockton lost one of its most dependable pitchers when LHP Chris Lamb was reassigned to Sacramento.

Starter Lou Trivino allowed 3 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings of work, while RHP Bobby Wahl gave up 2 runs in 1 inning of relief, and RHP Joel Seddon surrendered 4 runs in the 7th to take the loss for the Snappers in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader. Second baseman Chih Fang Pan had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in 2 runs, while shortstop Branden Cogswell singled, doubled and drove in a pair, and first baseman B.A. Vollmuth singled, doubled and drove in a run for the Snappers.

Starter Joseph Michaud allowed 3 runs over 5 innings of work to pick up the win, while RHP Brendan McCurry tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to earn his 1st save for the Snappers in the second game of Monday’s doubleheader. Outfielder Tyler Marincov collected 3 hits, including a 2-run homer, while catcher Philip Pohl also contributed a 2-run homer, and 1st-round draft pick Matt Chapman slugged a solo shot for the Snappers.

Starter Jerad Grundy had a rough outing for the Lake Monsters on Monday, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, on 9 hits over just 3 innings of work to take his 5th loss, while RHP Dominique Vattuone tossed 3 scoreless innings, and LHP Mike Fagan gave up 3 runs in just 1 inning of relief. 19-year-old shortstop Yairo Munoz continued his hot hitting, singling, doubling and driving in a pair of runs in the loss.

Starter Carlos Navas had a solid outing on Monday, allowing 2 runs while walking none and striking out 7 over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up taking the loss. RHP Ben Bracewell gave up 1 run in 2 innings of relief in his first appearance since joining the A’s from the independent Frontier League. The A’s managed just 6 hits in the game. Right fielder Robert Martinez had a pair of hits, while center fielder Rodolfo Penalo singled in a run in the loss.
