Outfielder Kent Matthes had a huge night for the Hounds, hitting a 3-run homer in the 2nd before slugging a grand slam in the 5th and then lining a 2-run single in the 9th, giving him a total of 9 RBIs on the night. No RockHound had driven in that many runs in a single game since Tommy Everidge drove in 10 in a game back in 2008. Second baseman Conner Crumbliss tripled and walked, while outfielder D’Arby Myers singled, doubled and walked, and catcher Bruce Maxwell doubled, walked twice and scored 3 runs for the RockHounds. Starter Nate Long allowed 3 runs on 3 solo home runs in 5 1/3 innings to pick up his 9th win for Midland.

First baseman Daric Barton singled, homered and drove in 4 runs, while shortstop Andy Parrino singled, tripled, walked and drove in 3, and outfielder Shane Peterson singled, tripled and drove in a run for the River Cats.

RHP Paul Smyth allowed 1 run in 2 innings of relief and LHP Joe Savery pitched a perfect final frame for his 2nd save. Catcher Luis Exposito singled, doubled and drove in a run, while third baseman Jose Martinez doubled and scored for Sacramento.

Former 1st-round draft pick Tim Alderson was impressive in his first start for Stockton on Saturday, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 6 over 6 shutout innings of work to earn his 1st win, while RHPs Blake Hassebrock, Kris Hall and Andres Avila each contributed a scoreless inning in relief. Designated hitter Renato Nunez singled, homered and drove in 4 runs, while Chad Pinder, getting the start at third base, singled, doubled and drove in a run, and second baseman Alberto Callaspo went 1 for 5 and scored twice in his first rehab appearance for the Ports.

First baseman Michael Soto singled, doubled and drove in 2 runs, while third baseman Edwin Diaz had 2 doubles and drove in a run, and Jean Carlo Rodriguez had 2 hits, a walk and drove in a pair in the loss.
