With the A’s top five affiliates all losing on Sunday, RHP Zach Neal turned in the top performance of the day for the River Cats. Neal had a solid outing for Sacramento, allowing 2 runs while striking out 4 over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up taking the loss. Designated hitter Daric Barton had 2 hits and drove in the River Cats’ only run of the game, while shortstop Jake Elmore had a pair of hits, walked and stole a base, and catcher Ryan Ortiz and second baseman Jose Martinez both singled and walked in the loss. With infielder Andy Parrino recalled by the A’s, infielder Colin Walsh was reassigned to the River Cats from Stockton. The A’s also optioned LHP Drew Pomeranz to Sacramento, where he’ll now join LHP Tommy Milone and RHPs Arnold Leon, Matt Buschmann and Zach Neal in the River Cats rotation.

Starter Shawn Haviland had a rough outing for the RockHounds on Sunday, allowing 7 runs in just 2 innings of work to take his 6th loss and snap the Hounds’ 9-game winning streak. Center fielder Billy Burns doubled, walked, drove in a run and stole his league-leading 44th base, while left fielder D’Arby Myers also doubled, and third baseman Jefry Marte had a pair of hits and has now gone 12 for 22 over his last 5 games for Midland.

Stockton managed just 3 hits in Sunday’s loss, with outfielder Bobby Crocker slugging his 7th home run to provide the Ports’ only run of the game. Third baseman Ryon Healy singled and outfielder Chad Oberacker doubled, while Healy, outfielder Jaycob Brugman and catcher Bruce Maxwell each struck out three times in the loss. Starter Seth Streich allowed 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 6 over 6 innings to take his 5th loss on Sunday.

This year’s 1st-round draft pick for the A’s, Matt Chapman, hit his 2nd home run of the season to provide the Snappers’ only run in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader. Chapman also singled in the game, and catcher Jose Chavez provided the team’s only other hit in the loss. Starter Hunter Adkins allowed 3 runs over just 3 1/3 innings to take his 3rd loss, while RHP Joel Seddon pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings, and RHP Sam Roberts tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief.

RHP Sam Bragg got the start in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader. He ended up allowing 1 run on 1 hit and 5 walks over 3 innings of work, while RHP Trevor Bayless gave up 4 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Tyler Vail surrendered the winning run to take his 3rd loss. Second baseman Luis Baez had 2 hits, stole a base and drove in 3 runs, while first baseman B.A. Vollmuth had a pair of hits, and shortstop Branden Cogswell walked and singled in a run in the loss.

Starter Jose Torres turned in a solid outing for the Lake Monsters, allowing 2 runs over 5 2/3 innings, but RHP Lee Sosa gave up a pair of runs in just 1/3 of an inning to take the loss, and RHP Daniel Gossett surrendered 2 more runs in 2 innings of relief on Sunday. Vermont managed just 5 hits on the day, and third baseman Jose Brizuela singled, walked and hit his 2nd home run in the loss.

The A’s 3rd-round draft pick this year, RHP Brett Graves, made his debut for the A’s, walking 1 and striking out 1 in a scoreless 1st inning in Arizona on Sunday. 8th-rounder Branden Kelliher allowed 3 unearned runs over 2 2/3 innings, while LHP Kevin Ferreras tossed 2 scoreless innings, and RHP Jesus Rivas pitched a perfect 9th to post his 2nd save. Outfielder Shawn Duinkerk singled, tripled and drove in a run, while third baseman Trent Gilbert doubled and walked, and catcher Dusty Brown, outfielder Robert Martinez and designated hitter Trace Loehr each drove in a run for the A’s.
