With RHP Josh Lindblom placed on the disabled list, RHP Drew Granier was called up from Midland to make the start for Sacramento on Sunday night. Granier allowed 7 runs on 12 hits over 4 innings of work but, with the River Cats scoring 9 runs over the first 3 innings and a total of 14 runs on the night, it really didn’t matter. Right fielder Josh Whitaker, who just arrived from Midland a little over a week ago, singled, doubled, walked, drove in 3 runs and scored twice, while center fielder Shane Peterson singled, doubled and also drove in 3, and shortstop Andy Parrino singled, doubled, walked and drove in a pair. RHPs Philip Humber, Fernando Rodriguez and Jeremy McBryde combined on 5 scoreless innings of relief for the River Cats, with Humber picking up his 4th win. Meanwhile, Granier was expected to return to the RockHounds rotation later in the week. And in other news, former River Cats Josh Donaldson, Brandon Moss, Derek Norris and Sean Doolittle were all named to the American League All-Star team.

With RHP Drew Granier called up to Sacramento to make Sunday night’s start for the River Cats, RHP Deryk Hooker was pressed into service for the RockHounds on Sunday. Hooker allowed 1 run over 3 innings of work, while RHPs Blake Hassebrock, Marcus Walden and Ryan Dull combined on 6 scoreless innings of relief, with Hassebrock notching his 3rd win and Dull posting his 2nd save. Third baseman Jefry Marte homered and drove in a pair of runs, while first baseman Max Muncy singled, tripled and drove in a run, and outfielder D’Arby Myers had a pair of hits, stole a base and drove in a run for the RockHounds.

Despite striking out a career-high 10 batters while walking none, LHP Chris Lamb ended up allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, over 5 1/3 innings to take the loss on Sunday, while RHP Andres Avila gave up another 4 runs on 9 hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Center fielder Herschel “Boog” Powell had 2 hits and drove in a run, while second baseman Wade Kirkland also collected a pair of hits, and first baseman Matt Olson, third baseman Renato Nunez and designated hitter Ryon Healy each drove in a run for the Ports.

After losing ten straight, the Snappers won their second straight on Sunday. Catcher Philip Pohl had a pair of doubles and scored 2 of the Snappers’ 3 runs, including the tying run in the top of the 8th, while designated hitter Jaycob Brugman had a pair of hits, and first baseman B.A. Vollmuth and outfielders B.J. Boyd and Tyler Marincov each drove in a run in the win. Starter Junior Mendez allowed 2 runs on 8 hits over 6 innings of work, while RHPs Joel Seddon, Sam Bragg and Tyler Vail each tossed a scoreless inning in relief, with Seddon picking up his 1st pro win and Vail posting his 2nd save.

Designated hitter John Nogowski collected 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while first baseman Ryan Huck hit a 2-run homer, and shortstop Yairo Munoz and outfielder Justin Higley had a pair of hits apiece in the loss.

Outfielder Brett Vertigan singled, doubled, tripled, walked and drove in a run, while outfielder Justin Higley drove in a pair, and catcher Kyle Wheeler, shortstop Gabriel Santana and third baseman Max Kuhn had a pair of hits apiece for the Lake Monsters.

2013’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, LHP Dillon Overton, was impressive on Sunday in his third appearance since returning from Tommy John surgery. Overton allowed just 1 hit while walking none and striking out 8 over 3 innings of work on Sunday, and he’s yet to issue a walk while striking out 17 in his first 9 innings back on the bump in Arizona. The 6-foot-2 left-hander has been throwing all his pitches, with a particularly impressive changeup, while his fastball has touched 90 mph on the gun. The game would continue on for another 11 innings after Overton’s exit though. LHP Kevin Ferreras allowed 3 runs in the 7th, while RHP Travis Pitcher tossed a scoreless 8th, 9th and 10th, and LHP Derek Beasley got the final six outs for his 1st pro win. Outfielder J.P. Sportman had 4 hits and drove in a pair of runs, including the winning run in the top of the 14th, while third baseman Trent Gilbert had 3 hits, including a triple, and drove in a run, and shortstop Trace Loehr and second baseman Jesus Lopez had a pair of hits apiece for the A’s.
