RHP Arnold Leon turned in a strong start for Sacramento on Sunday, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 5 over 6 innings of work to earn his team-leading 8th win for the River Cats. RHP Fernando Rodriguez pitched 2 perfect innings in relief, while RHP Evan Scribner tossed a scoreless 9th to earn his 11th save. Outfielder Nick Buss delivered the decisive blow for the second straight night, hitting his 4th home run in the 5th inning to break a 1-1 tie. First baseman Anthony Aliotti had a pair of hits filling in for Nate Freiman, who, with A’s outfielder Josh Reddick landing on the disabled list, was promoted to the big club. And Freiman turned out to be the hero for Oakland on Sunday, hitting a 3-run homer in the 6th-inning to put the A’s on top. Meanwhile, infielder Alden Carrithers was activated from the disabled list to take Freiman’s place on the River Cats roster.

The RockHounds dropped their fourth straight on Sunday night. Starter Nate Long allowed 3 runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings to take his 4th loss, while RHP Ryan Dull tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. Third baseman Jefry Marte hit his 5th home run in the 4th inning to account for all the RockHounds runs in the game. Second baseman Hiroyuki Nakajima had 2 hits and 2 walks, while catcher Blake Forsythe doubled and walked, and designated hitter Addison Russell went 1 for 4 and struck out twice in the loss.

Third baseman Renato Nunez continued his torrid June, hitting 2 home runs in a game for the second time this week. First baseman Ryon Healy singled, homered and drove in 2 runs, while shortstop Daniel Robertson walked and homered, and outfielder Herschel Powell had a pair of doubles and drove in a run for the Ports. Starter Tim Atherton allowed 3 runs on 7 hits over 5 1/3 innings of work and left with the game tied, but RHP Austin House gave up 3 runs in extra innings to take the loss for Stockton.

LHP Matt Stalcup had another shaky start for the Snappers, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits over 4 2/3 innings  on Sunday, but the Beloit came back to tie the game. RHP Sam Bragg tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, while RHP Tyler Vail gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of work to take the loss. Catcher Philip Pohl singled, doubled, homered and drove in 4 runs, while first baseman B.A. Vollmuth had 3 doubles, scored 3 times and drove in a run, and 1st-round draft pick Matt Chapman hit his 1st professional home run in the loss and is now 6 for 24 since joining the Snappers.

Starter Victor Veliz had a rough outing for the Lake Monsters on Sunday, allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, on 7 hits over 3 innings to take his 2nd loss, while RHP A.J. Burke gave up 2 runs and struck out 4 in 5 innings of work. Left fielder Justin Higley hit a 2-run homer, while right fielder Scott Masik had 3 hits and scored twice in the loss.
