Designated hitter Renato Nunez helped the Ports post their 9th straight win on Wednesday. Nunez had 4 hits, including a pair of home runs, and drove in 3 runs for Stockton. And the 20-year-old is now 15 for 27 with 4 doubles, 5 home runs and 13 RBIs in 7 games since the California League All-Star break. First baseman Matt Olson hit his league-leading 20th home run, while second baseman Wade Kirkland hit his 2nd, while center fielder Herschel Powell tripled in a pair of runs for the Ports. Starter Chris Lamb allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 5 walks over 4 2/3 innings of work, while RHP Jonathan Joseph pitched 3 1/3 perfect innings in relief to pick up the win.

RHP Drew Granier delivered a strong start for the RockHounds on Wednesday, tossing 6 shutout innings to earn his 4th win, while RHP Tucker Healy got the final five outs for his 4th save. Second baseman Dusty Coleman tripled in a pair of runs, while outfielder Billy Burns singled, doubled, drove in a run and stole his 37th base. Shortstop Addison Russell singled, walked twice and stole a base, and outfielder D’Arby Myers singled, walked, stole a base, drove in a run and scored twice in his return to the RockHounds after spending over two months on the disabled list with a broken wrist.

RHP Junior Mendez had a shaky start for the Snappers, allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, over 5 innings of work to take his 3rd loss on Wednesday, while this year’s 11th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Joel Seddon, tossed a scoreless 8th inning in his debut for Beloit. Outfielder Jaycob Brugman hit his second home run in as many days, while 1st-round pick Matt Chapman went 2 for 4 in his second game for the Snappers, and first baseman Ryan Mathews, second baseman Luis Baez and designated hitter Philip Pohl had a pair of hits apiece for Beloit.

The Lake Monsters managed just 6 hits in the game. Shortstop Gabriel Santana singled and doubled, while catcher Kyle Wheeler had a pair of singles in the loss.

17-year-old starter Jesus Zambrano allowed 3 runs while striking out 9 over 6 innings of work to earn his 1st win on Wednesday. The A’s 34th-round draft pick out of Florida State, first baseman John Nogowski, had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and drove in 4 runs, while outfielder Robert Martinez also had a pair of doubles and drove in a run. Designated hitter Robert Kuhn, this year’s 13th-round pick, hit his 1st home run, while the team’s 16th-round pick, third baseman Jose Brizuela, also notched his 1st homer – an inside-the-parker – and tripled for the A’s.

 

In Other News…

River Cats infielder Tyler Ladendorf has been suspended for 50 games after a second positive test for a “drug of abuse.” Marijuana, cocaine, LSD, ecstasy, heroin and other opiates are considered drugs of abuse by MLB. Ladendorf posted a slash line of .305/.387/.429 while playing second base and shortstop for Sacramento this season.
