Shortstop Dusty Coleman wielded the big bat as he smacked 2 doubles and drove in 4 runs to help propel the RockHounds to victory on Sunday. Outfielder Chad Oberacker singled, tripled and drove in a pair of runs, while Anthony Aliotti, starting in right field, singled, doubled, walked and scored twice. Outfielder Billy Burns stole his 32nd base, and outfielder Josh Whitaker sat out his fourth straight game since being hit in the head with a pitch in Wednesday’s game. Starter Nate Long allowed 3 runs while striking out 7 in 6 innings of work to earn his 7th win. And as we reported yesterday, it was announced on Sunday that RockHounds RHP Zach Neal has been promoted from Midland to Sacramento for the second time this season. Meanwhile, shortstop Addison Russell is set to rejoin the RockHounds on Monday and will most likely make his return to Midland’s lineup on Tuesday.

RHP Josh Lindblom turned in his second straight solid start for Sacramento on Sunday, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings of work, and he left with the game tied 2-2. But LHP Eric O’Flaherty, making his third rehab appearance – his second for Sacramento – surrendered 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief to take the loss for the River Cats. Outfielder Shane Peterson singled, tripled and drove in all 3 of the River Cats runs in the game, while second baseman Wade Kirkland doubled to post his first hit for Sacramento. And as we reported yesterday, it was announced on Sunday that RHP Zach Neal has been promoted from Midland to take the recently-traded Michael Taylor’s roster spot with the River Cats.

Beloit won in a walk-off for the second straight night on Sunday. This time, it was outfielder Tyler Marincov’s 2-run homer in the bottom of the 12th that allowed the Snappers to claim victory in their last game before the Midwest League All-Star break. Outfielder B.J. Boyd singled, doubled and drove in a run, while outfielder Herschel Powell hit his 3rd home run to put Beloit on the board in the bottom of the 3rd. Starter Junior Mendez allowed 3 runs in 6 innings of work, while RHPs Stuart Pudenz and Tyler Vail combined to toss 5 innings of scoreless relief, and RHP Blake McMullen picked up his 1st win despite giving up a run in the top of the 12th.

Last year’s 10th-round draft pick for the A’s, LHP Jerad Grundy, looked strong in his season debut on Sunday, allowing 2 runs, just 1 earned, while walking none and striking out 6 over 6 innings of work. RHP Dominique Vattuone came on to give up 2 runs in just 1/3 of an inning, while LHP Alex Nolasco picked up the win with 2/3 of an inning of scoreless relief, and RHP Trevor Bayless tossed 2 scoreless innings to earn his 1st save. Second baseman Chris Wolfe singled, doubled, walked twice and drove in a run, while third baseman Yairo Munoz had 2 hits and drove in a pair, and outfielder Ben McQuown singled in the winning run in the top of the 8th for Vermont.
