RHP Dan Straily turned in an impressive start for Sacramento on Saturday, allowing just 1 run while striking out 9 over 7 innings to earn his 4th win for the River Cats. First baseman Nate Freiman had another big night at the plate, hitting his 11th home run and his 19th double and driving in 2 runs, while shortstop Tyler Ladendorf homered and had a pair of doubles. Left fielder Colin Walsh and third baseman Jose Martinez each drove in a pair of runs, and second baseman Wade Kirkland went 0 for 4 with a stolen base in his debut for Sacramento. In other news, the River Cats’ all-time hit-leader, outfielder Michael Taylor, was traded to the White Sox in exchange for RHP Jake Sanchez. This year for Class-A Kannapolis, Sanchez has posted an ERA of 2.80 and struck out 66 batters in 61 innings of work. And word has it that RHP Zach Neal is set to be promoted from Midland to Sacramento to take Michael Taylor’s place on the River Cats roster.

Starter Shawn Haviland had a solid outing for the RockHounds on Saturday, allowing 1 run on just 2 hits over 7 innings of work, and he left with the game tied 1-1. In the bottom of the 9th, RHP Ryan Dull hit the leadoff hitter and then walked the next batter before RHP Seth Frankoff came in and surrendered a single to bring home the winning run in a walk-off for San Antonio. First baseman Miles Head collected 3 hits, including a triple, while shortstop Dusty Coleman and catcher Beau Taylor both singled and doubled, and outfielder Billy Burns singled and swiped his 31st base for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, outfielder Josh Whitaker sat out his third straight game since being hit in the head with a pitch in Wednesday’s game. And word has it that RHP Zach Neal is set to be promoted from Midland to Sacramento for the second time this season, which would make room on the RockHounds roster for the return of Addison Russell.

LHP Chris Lamb delivered his fourth straight strong start for Stockton on Saturday, tossing 6 scoreless innings to earn his 3rd win. RHP Josh Bowman, LHP Jeremy Barfield and RHP Kris Hall each contributed a scoreless inning in relief, with Hall picking up his 2nd save for the Ports. First baseman Ryon Healy and designated hitter Renato Nunez each had a pair of hits and drove in a run, while Matt Olson, making his first start in left field since being drafted two years ago, went 0 for 3 with a walk, and shortstop Addison Russell went 1 for 4 in what’s expected to be his last game with Stockton before rejoining the Midland RockHounds.

It was a wild game in Beloit on Saturday night. After being down by 9 runs in the 6th inning, the Snappers came back to take the lead in the 8th, only to let Kane County tie it up in the top on the 9th before coming back and winning in a walk-off in the bottom of the 9th. Almost every Beloit batter contributed in the comeback win. Third baseman Luis Baez slugged a grand slam in the Snappers’ big 7-run 6th and also doubled in the game, while designated hitter B.A. Vollmuth singled, doubled, drove in 4 runs and stole home to score the go-ahead run in the 8th, and catcher Philip Pohl hit the game-winning home run in the bottom of the 9th for Beloit. Starter Matt Stalcup allowed 3 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings of work, while RHP Tyler Hollstegge gave up 5 runs in relief without registering an out, and RHP Andres Avila picked up the win despite allowing the tying run in the top of the 9th for the Snappers.

RHP A.J. Burke had a solid start in his debut outing for Vermont on Saturday, allowing 2 runs, just 1 earned, on 3 hits while walking none and striking out 9 in 5 innings of work to earn his 1st win. LHP Victor Veliz gave up 1 run in 3 innings of relief, and RHP Fernando Cruzado got the final 3 outs for his 1st save. Second baseman Joe Bennie and designated hitter Justin Higley both singled, dolubled and drove in a run, while catcher Andy Paz doubled in a pair for Vermont.
