After exiting Saturday’s game due to being struck with a bat on the backswing and sitting out Sunday’s game, catcher Bruce Maxwell came back with a bang on Monday, blasting a 3-run homer to snap a 4-4 tie and provide the Ports with the margin of victory in Monday’s win at Stockton. Maxwell was named to the California League All-Star squad last week along with teammate Seth Streich. Outfielder Bobby Crocker also contributed a solo shot in the game, while second baseman Chad Pinder had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run. First baseman Matt Olson walked twice and doubled in a pair and Addison Russell, serving as the designated hitter for the night, went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts after going 2 for 3 in his first game back on Sunday. Starter Hunter Adkins allowed 4 runs over 6 innings of work but walked away with his 2nd win for Stockton.

RHP Dan Straily delivered a solid start for Sacramento on Monday, allowing 2 runs on just 4 hits while striking out 7 over 8 innings of work, but he still ended up walking away with the loss. The River Cats managed just 4 hits in the game. Third baseman Jose Martinez doubled for the team’s only extra-base hit, while designated hitter Nate Freiman singled and drew a pair of walks in the loss. Meanwhile, RHP Fernando Nieve was released to make room on the River Cats roster for LHP Justin Marks. Nieve posted an ERA of 7.01 in 18 games out of the Cats bullpen this season. And after making an appearance with Stockton last week, LHP Eric O’Flaherty is expected to resume is rehab assignment with Sacramento on Wednesday.

Starter Shawn Haviland was a little shaky on Monday, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits and 4 walks over 4 2/3 innings of work, while RHP Ryan Dull and LHP Frank Gailey each tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. The game was tied 4-4 heading into the bottom of the 9th inning when RHP Seth Frankoff surrendered a 3-run homer with 2 outs to take the loss. Designated hitter Anthony Aliotti singled, homered and drove in a pair of runs, while outfielder Josh Whitaker tripled in a run, walked and stole a base, and second baseman Conner Crumbliss doubled and drove in a run for the RockHounds. In other news, Midland first basemen Max Muncy and Anthony Aliotti, outfielder Josh Whitaker, shortstop Dusty Coleman and pitchers Nate Long and Seth Frankoff have all been named to the Texas League South Division All-Star team.

LHP Matt Stalcup had a rough start for the Snappers on Monday, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits over 4 1/3 innings of work, while RHP Stuart Pudenz tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. The game was tied heading into the bottom of the final frame when RHP Tyler Vail surrendered the winning run to take the loss. Outfielder Herschel “Boog” Powell had 3 hits and drove in a run, while third baseman Luis Baez singled, tripled and brought home a run as well.

Starter Brent Powers allowed 1 run over 3 1/3 innings of work, while RHP Blake McMullen gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, in 2 2/3 innings of relief to take his 2nd loss for the Snappers. Beloit batters managed just 5 hits in the game. Designated hitter Jaycob Brugman walked and notched a pair of doubles, while outfielder Tyler Marincov singled in the Snappers’ only run of the game.
