Though Midland trailed for much of the game, the Rockhounds turned things around with a big 7-run 8th inning, highlighted by outfielder Kent Matthes’ towering grand slam over the left field wall. It was Matthes’ third home run in as many games. Third baseman Miles Head hit his 5th round-tripper later in the same inning, while outfielder Chad Oberacker singled, doubled and drove in a run for the RockHounds. Starter Nate Long turned in another solid outing on Sunday, allowing 2 runs and striking out 5 over 6 innings of work, while RHP Ryan Doolittle struck out 4 in 2 scoreless innings of relief to earn his 2nd win for the Hounds.

RHP Marcus Walden, claimed off waivers from Toronto earlier in the year, had his best start so far this season for Sacramento, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits over 7 innings to earn his 2nd win on Sunday. Outfielder Michael Taylor singled and doubled in a pair of runs, including the go-ahead run in the 6th for Sacramento, while catcher Stephen Vogt, first baseman Nate Freiman and shortstop Tyler Ladendorf had a pair of hits apiece for the Cats. With the A’s acquisition of LHP Jeff Francis from Cincinnati on Sunday, the team returned LHP Joe Savery to Sacramento.

Starter Seth Streich had a rare rough outing for Stockton on Sunday, allowing 6 runs on 10 hits over 6 innings to take his 3rd loss, while former starter Josh Bowman gave up 3 runs, 1 earned, in 3 innings of relief for the Ports. First baseman Matt Olson belted his 11th home run to give him the California League lead, while second baseman Chad Pinder, third baseman Renato Nunez, designated hitter Ryon Healy and outfielder Aaron Shipman had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. LHP Chris Lamb, who was recently promoted from Beloit, is scheduled to make his first start for Stockton on Monday in place of Bowman.

Starter Bobby Wahl was perfect through the first 3 innings but ended up allowing 2 runs before being pulled with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th while Beloit slowly builds up his pitch count after his return from the disabled list. Wahl took his 3rd loss, while second Luis Baez smacked 2 doubles and outfielder Jaycob Brugman posted a pair of singles to account for the Snappers’ 4 hits on the day.
