CALIFORNIA LEAGUE  (High-A)

Stockton Ports  2

Modesto Nuts      0

WP – Healy 2-1 / 1.10

Farmhand Of The Game:

Pitcher Hunter Adkins

(6 IP / 3 H / 0 ER / 2 BB / 4 K)

One night after RHP Matt Buschmann threw 6 shutout innings, RHP Hunter Adkins followed up with 6 scoreless innings of his own on Saturday night, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 4. RHP Michael Ynoa followed up by striking out 3 in 2 scoreless innings of relief while hitting 98 mph on the radar gun. After RHP Tucker Healy shut down Modesto in the bottom of the 9th, the game went to extra innings still a scoreless tie. But after Stockton loaded the bases in the top of the 10th, designated hitter Ryon Healy and and catcher Bruce Maxwell drew back-to-back walks to bring home a pair of runs for the Ports. Healy then tossed a scoreless 10th to pick up his 2nd win. Stockton batters had only 4 hits in the game but took 11 walks, with outfielder Aaron Shipman drawing 4 and first baseman Matt Olson taking 3. Meanwhile, Friday’s starter, RHP Matt Buschmann, was reassigned to the River Cats, while RHP Tim Atherton was activated from the disabled list on Saturday and is scheduled to start Sunday’s game for Stockton. Catcher Ryan Lipkin was activated from the disabled list on Friday and assigned to Stockton, while catcher Ryan Gorton returned to extended spring training in Arizona.

Farmhand Of The Game:

Outfielder Shane Peterson

(2 for 4 / 2 Walks / RBI)

Outfielder Shane Peterson was right in the middle of all the action in the River Cats extra-innings win on Saturday. First, he drew a bases loaded walk to put the River Cats on the board in the 7th inning. The center fielder then singled to load the bases in the bottom of the 9th right before first baseman Nate Freiman’s sacrifice fly brought home the tying run and sent the game to extra innings. And then in the bottom of the 11th, Peterson laid down a successful bunt single that brought home the winning run when pitcher Jeremy Berg made an errant throw and gave the River Cats the walk-off win on Saturday. RHP Arnold Leon allowed 2 runs on 8 hits over 5 2/3 innings of work, while RHP Jose Flores picked up his 1st win after tossing a scoreless frame in the top of 11th for Sacramento. Meanwhile, RHP Matt Buschmann was reassigned to the River Cats after completing a pair of rehab outings for Stockton. And with Dan Straily’s recent return to Sacramento, there are now 7 starting pitchers on the River Cats roster – Straily, Buschmann and Leon along with Josh Lindblom, Marcus Walden, Zach Neal and Sean Murphy. It seems likely that a couple of them may soon be sent to Midland, where RHP Nate Long and LHP Andrew Werner have been pulled out of the bullpen to fill out the RockHounds rotation since the loss of RHPs Raul Alcantara and Tanner Peters to injury. In other news, catcher Stephen Vogt should soon be ready to make his return to the River Cats roster as well.
