RHP Shawn Haviland, returning from Tommy John surgery after missing all of the 2013 season, made his best start on Saturday since being promoted to Midland last week. The 28-year-old allowed just 3 hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings before leaving with 2 outs in the 8th inning and the game a scoreless tie. But in the top of the 9th, third baseman Jefry Marte singled home second baseman Conner Crumbliss to extend his hitting streak to 13 games and provide what would prove to be the only run of the game, while LHP Jeff Urlaub picked up the win in relief after getting the final 4 outs. Colin Walsh, appearing in his first game in the outfield for Midland, had a pair of hits and has now reached base in all 12 games since joining the RockHounds. Designated hitter Anthony Aliotti, who was reassigned to Midland from Sacramento earlier in the day, went 0 for 4 with a pair of strikeouts, while RHP Raul Alcantara, who’s been suffering with a sore right elbow, was placed on the disabled list.
