Top pitching prospect Raul Alcantara was impressive in his Double-A debut for the RockHounds on Sunday. The 21-year-old allowed just 1 run on 6 hits over 8 innings of work to earn the win for Midland. The Hounds were held scoreless until shortstop Dusty Coleman tagged a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 8th inning to give his team the lead. RHP Seth Frankoff then came on to get the last 3 outs and earn his 1st save of the season for Midland. Earlier in the day, the team placed shortstop Addison Russell on the 7-day disabled list with a hamstring strain that resulted from a stolen base attempt on Friday night.

Third baseman Jose Martinez, signed as a minor league free agent in the offseason, had a big night at the plate, collecting 4 hits, including a home run, and driving in 3 runs for the River Cats. First baseman Nate Freiman singled and doubled to drive in 3 runs, while second baseman Hiro Nakajima and shortstop Tyler Ladendorf had 3 hits apiece for the Cats. Starter Matt Buschmann who, like Martinez, also signed as a minor league free agent, allowed 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6 over 5 2/3 innings to earn the win, while rehabbing RHP Fernando Rodriguez tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, and LHP Joe Savery got the final out to pick up his 1st save for Sacramento.

RHP Shawn Haviland, returning from injury, made his first start since 2012 for Stockton on Sunday. The 28-year-old Harvard alum allowed 3 runs, just 1 earned, on 4 hits while striking out 5 over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss, while RHP Ryan Doolittle struck out 3 in 2 perfect innings of relief. The Ports were shut out on just 6 hits on Sunday. First baseman Matt Olson had a pair of singles, while shortstop Daniel Robertson singled and doubled and is now 7 for 15 on the season.

With his team down by a run, outfielder Tyler Marincov, last year’s 8th-round draft pick for the A’s, hit a 2-out, 2-run homer in the bottom of the 6th inning to give Beloit the lead, and the team never looked back. Marincov also walked twice and stole a base, while designated hitter Ryan Mathews singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice for the Snappers. The team’s 4th-round draft pick last year, RHP Dylan Covey, allowed 3 runs on 8 hits over 5 2/3 innings in his season debut, while LHP Brent Powers gave up 1 run in 2 innings of relief to pick up the win, and LHP Chris Lamb tossed a scoreless 9th inning to earn his 1st save of the season for the Snappers.
